Has any body painter their OEM Engine Cover or has any body tried RPI Plenum Engine Cover. Its $294.00 I have a friend said he could paint the original one cheaper. Any thoughts?
I have an RPI hydro carbon plenum cover on my car. It’s the smooth version and I couldn’t be happier! It really looks good, well that’s my opinion anyway
I want to paint my engine covers as well. I’ve been researching, reading and watching videos on how to do it. I’ve also been practicing on scrap plastic as well. I’ll be watching for any and all advice and tips offered.
Looks awesome, the contrast I wanted to do also. Question, did you paint everything white, tape off and paint the red separately, then letters by hand? What was your technique or sequence in the paint work? Many thx!
I sanded all the covers almost smooth then used a plastic fill/primer several times sanding between coats. Then painted with the Sterling Blue. Tapped off the plenum cover then painted the red followed by several coats of clear. The letters used a vinyl letter kit worked perfect. Total cost was around $50 plus about 4 hours of prep.
Did this yesterday, cleaned with alcohol, (no samd or primer) used VHT Real red (1 light , 2 med,1 full coat) and 1 coat of their Clearcoat. Came out great imo.

Thx for the great feedback, especially ref the primer / filler. Nice tape job on the plenum cover, looks very tight and consistent. I would have guessed a small spray gun. Did read something about a paint promoter / adhesive to ensure good contact after priming. My C7 is typical, script on covers started peeling. I taped, sanded, used Torch red, hand painted and cleared....beautiful. Again thx, going to run with it myself.

Very nice too, seems there are so many ideas out there besides paying $500 for a plenum cover! Inspiring, will practice on used fuel rail covers first just to practice with the airbrush. My C7 is arctic white, have a color scheme in mind.
Alot of nice painting, I haven't done my plenum cover yet,but I did do my fuel rail covers.
Fuel rail covers look nice, it's cool to see ppl not afraid to trick their own cars and have a beautiful job. Now I'm even more inspired, thank for the positive posts!
I painted my own. First sanded off the corvette lettering and the texure. Then applied the red. Then applied new corvette decals. Then finished with clear.
Started on the engine compartment journey, going to hydro dip with carbon fiber and use house of kolor silver and candy apple red, have 10 pieces to do. Started 6 today with adhesion primer followed by a white primer. The house of kolor paints are supposed to arrive within a couple days. I have been watching quite a few videos on hydro dipping. I will post pics along the way.
