Has any body painter their OEM Engine Cover or has any body tried RPI Plenum Engine Cover. Its $294.00 I have a friend said he could paint the original one cheaper. Any thoughts?
I washed everything first, then wiped it all down with alcohol. I started with adhesion promoter then colors then clear. Hope that helps.
The silver runners in the closer shot look funny, but it's the reflection of the trees.

I have the RPI painted plenum cover on my car. Originally only in torch red, I had a local sign shop cut and apply the black vinyl to give it some highlights in the engine bay.
Start with adhesion promoter, High Temp Engine paint was airbrushed then high temp clear. I have a few more pieces under the hood to have airbrushed, sticking with the US Coast Guard theme. (Ret 30 years active duty)

Alot of nice painting, I haven't done my plenum cover yet,but I did do my fuel rail covers.
Very nice, tell me about the paint used and how you finished it. I think I'd like to do Torch red ribs w/white background. Any thought s or insight would be appreciated. Again, beautiful !
For mine I used an adhesion promoter, gray automotive primer, three different shades of Rustoleum hammertone finish paint, vinyl lettering from eBay and then I clear coated everything.
If you are planning on masking the newly painted areas you might want to use Duplicolor automotive spray paint because it dries faster and harder than Rustoleum. Otherwise Rustoleum works fine. The heat of engine compartment turns out to do an excellent job of curing the new paint.
The prep and adhesion promoter the most important step, everyone has some great looking stuff here.. I have used, with great results, the paints at Automotive Touch up, OEM colors and have adhesion promoter, paint, and topcoat I originally did my fender covers Torch Red came out beautifully. If your doing it yourself check them out.
Really appreciate the response, I'd thought about using some type of adhesion promoter then seen some new primer with adhesion properties. The script decals looked really good, thought it was hand painted! So, clear coat "everything" afterwards worked for you. I like the Duplicator, I can paint match Torch red and Arctic white. Great project, thanks again for a really great post.
I'm definitely doing it myself, appreciate the input ref the prep. I've done a lot of extremely detailed painting but the car deal is new......heat, oils, etc. Many thanks from NC.
Yes, I’ve had good results using a clear coat top coat even over vinyl lettering as it helps keep the vinyl edges from lifting. Your top coat can be matte, semi or full gloss depending upon the look that you are after and it has the benefit of giving a consistent finish across a variety of colors and brands of paint. It’s always a good idea to pre-test the various products to make sure that they are compatible with one another.
