Well, took the plunge. Seemed like enough opinions here that the 2014's were not a bundle of first-model year problems. Found a 2014 Z51 in the Laguna Blue I like with 3LT, Performance Exhaust, Magnetic Ride, dual roof and a few other options. Only thing I don't like is the previous owner swapped out the original wheels (which were a $2K upgrade) with third-party ones -- am guessing somewhere down the road I can get a set of original wheels at a reasonable cost. And my Corvette adventure begins.....
I always tell people start at 2016 and work your way up.
First year for the front-facing "curb" cameras. Extremely helpful.
First year for the Spice Red and Twilight Blue interior packages, if you like those colors.
I've owned my '16 for three years, now. The only problem I have had is the spotty delamination of the black leather covering of the Heads Up Display.
Check out cargurus.com. I found my Corvette and El Camino on that site. It's very good. Best of luck to you.
Also, 2016 and newer has the electric trunk closer plus you can't get the PDR option with a 2014..
Best of Luck with your new beauty. I recently picked up a 2014 Z51 3LT A6 convertible in Midnight Race Blue with Kalahari interior. Just now getting her out on the road as it has started getting getting warm enough to drop the top.
As far as C7 reliability goes you should be fine with any C7 model year. Ironically, being a first model year, 2014s are arguably among the most (if not the most) reliable of the C7 model run.
As mentioned, approx 5% of post 2014 C7 A8 autos have had issues however seems GM's triple frush has been extremely successful in resolving these issues.
I'd advise staying away from the 3LT trim package especially if C7 is out of BTB warranty as the leather dash shrinking issue is an approx a $3000 repair and can re-appear.
Got my Corvette today, Carmax had shipped it in from out of state. Very happy that there were no surprises. Car even had the extra color-matched hardtop in back. The previous owner had applied black plastic to the spoiler and to the hood from the vent back to the windshield. Was able to peel both off easily as I prefer original factory look. From what I can tell, the previous owner switched out some of the badging to black as well, looks like I can buy the originals and seems like an easy swap back to original. The wheels are nice but I'm gonna get those swapped out for the factory chromes that it came with.
This is my first Corvette. I rented one two years ago on Turo and fell in love with the C7. I hear this design isn't for everyone, but I think it is a work of art. And the car drives like a dream. Good times ahead!
