Default C7 body Upgrades

Every time I take my Z51 to a corvette show, 90% of the attendees/owners turn up their nose at my car saying "its just a stingray". Well, yes it is, a $71K stingray so I guess I should have spent the additional $25k for the upper crust model. What types of body kits are available to throw off the critical bunch?

First, both the Stingray and GS/Z06 wide-body C7s are outstanding sportscars so I wouldn't worry about what 'they say' or do.

Second, you would not have needed to spend anywhere near $25,000 to get a wide-body C7 as a GS was only approx $6000 more at MSRP than a comparable Z51.

Third, if you think they are turning up their noises now wait until you show up like a want-to-be with a wide-body "kit" installed.

Just enjoy your Z51 and chose the shows you attend better as I've never been to Corvette show where C7 Stingrays were belittled.
Besides, did you purchase your Stingray for you to enjoy or for others to enjoy?

Don’t do it, they’ll just call you a poser.

I think there are things you can do to change the overall presence of the car without doing the body changes (or fake brake ducts). But, when you say "body", are you referring to the add-ons or getting the actual wide body in the back? Suppose some may call this a poser but they are just standard add-ons. Of course, I may have thick skin from driving a Panamera for a number of years, even if it is a Turbo S. Enjoy your car. I wonder how many of those "snobs" even have a Corvette to appreciate? We love our Z51.

Forget the body kit idea. Throw a built 427 in it and watch em drool.

IF I were going to do something to a C7 Stingray to draw attention at a car show I would do the engine compartment, and a wild hood. Can always take the hood back off when it’s time to sell, body kit typically hurts resale or at a minimum narrows the buyers. A cool hood easy to take off and ridiculously detailed engine compartment won’t hurt JMHO

Honestly, I wouldn't worry what some jealous people say about your car. You have one of the finest, and affordable, sports cars out there and nothing wrong with having a base Stingray. You bought the car for you to drive and enjoy - just continue doing that. As mentioned, perhaps you need to start attending different shows where there is an appreciation for all types of cars.

Wide body or narrow body it's what you bought and own and appreciate it and don't let others diminish that for you. I have a narrow body Z51 Stingray and my buddy has a wide body Z06 but I can tell you that any type of car event more time is spent by people walking around my car vs my buddy's. I also see it on my dashcam all the time when I review random footage where people stand over my car more than his because his look like any other Z06 but one isn't better as they all are beautiful to me.

The reason mine standout is how I have it tastefully modded and real top end carbon fiber that replaced all the carbon flash, Stage 3 front and rear package all in carbon fiber, carbon fiber APR Diffuser in rear, HRE custom wheels, carbon fiber top, Z06 front grill, lowered, Competition Seats, carbon fiber hood vent, custom hood accents and grill accents, Carbon Fiber front and rear spats.

My Narrow Body that doesn't look like any other car when you examine it all the way around. My buddy says Damn Man, people love your car so kinda gets pissed like you get pissed! Again, one car is not better than another but from a stock to stock the wide body aggressive stance makes it stand out more when you are comparing two totally stock cars but from a mod perspective the tides can change but it is not a competition but making your car your own and enjoying as others enjoy theirs.

That said, I would not spend money because what someone else thinks but that's me and just made my car my own and wouldn't trade it.

I will note that my buddy in his Z06 use to call me little brother wanting to be big brother but he won't race me anymore in my narrow body because he doesn't want anymore poster shots or Dashcam video of him chasing behind me because I look good and got some added power in my itty bitty narrow body.....

I do call him little brother now but it’s all in fun as he never knew that I wasn’t stock anymore and I wasn’t going to volunteer that information as I knew on any given day he would ask if little brother wanted to try to beat him. I just kept remembering him saying he missed shifted, spun blah blah blah LOL

We get along better now as near equals on low end but he plateaus at the top end.

All Good just friendly bantering 😌

You have a great car that many others wish they owned, just enjoy it and forget about trying to win the approval of others.

@johnfin I say who cares, enjoy your car and don't do something you will regret. Darren and I show up at these things Corvette or other wise and our cars a pretty filthy after a track event. To shut everyone up we simply have a large plaque on our dash that states;

SORRY FOLKS I'M NOT A SHOW CAR...
I AM A TRACK STAR....150MPH
THANKS FOR STOPPING BY...

I didn't buy my Stingray to please anyone by myself. Don't get all twisted over what others think of yours.

People who look down at your car especially corvette owners are just self centered fools. Paul

People especially fellow Vette owners should not look down at your car. It is just an indication of how self centered and self important they are. Paul

Try telling them where to put it. And there is nothing wrong with the stringray.....it is still a great car.

Next time just ask them how they like the way GM went all out to make the wide front fenders on the wide bodys.

I jest of course, but it is my least favorite part of the wide body.

They wouldn't faze me at all with a comment like that. The Stingray name, which was brought back for the C7, is what got me looking at them in the first place. My first impressions of the Corvette came from songs in the '60s. Neither the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean called them anything but Stingrays on my 6-transistor radio. I didn't even know they were Corvettes at first.

Anyone that criticizes another for having a base Stingray is an idiot.
