Default Automatic Shift **** Chipping

My 2019 Grand Sport, Automatic Shift **** has developed Four small chips at the top edge. These are small "pin head" size that are now showing the bare metal below the plastic coating. I do not wear a ring on my right hand, therefore that is not the cause. Looks to me like possibly defective coating? Anyone else notice this situation? Would this be warranty, car will be 2years old in May.

My 2019 rag top is doing something similar. Black coating has chipped off to the plastic underneath. About an eight of an inch around. I do not wear a ring on my right hand either.

It’s a warranty issue. Take it in. As long as there are no clear scratch/gouge marks, indicating you damaged it, it’s 100% warranty. I’ve had that covered under warranty on my previous CTS

I would say it should be covered under warranty. Take it to the dealer and see about getting it replaced.

I guess the good news is that if for some reason GM won't cover it under warranty a replacement isn't very expensive and doesn't appear to be too difficult to install.

Shift ****
23157552Shifter & components, auto trans, red stitching.

$133.45
$84.44

You're welcome. Keep in mind that the part # above is for boot with red stitching. GM offer several colors.

Anyone have any photos of this? I’m just curious what it looks like?

Here's what the shift ****/boot assembly looks like installed if that's what you want to see:

I have a 2017 Grand Sport that I purchased last July and had 39,000 miles on it. The shift **** was exactly as you described. Since the car was out of bumper-to-bumper I ordered one and replaced it myself for less than $100. It has now been 9 months and the new one is doing the same thing. Wish there was a better fix than replacing it once a year.

Maybe if you buy a new one you can spray some clear coat on it or some other protective layer before installing it. Seems like they never addressed the quality of the materials and replacing it will be a repeat failure.

Update, Local dealer advised no warranty for this, advised I had to hit it with something to chip it. Has anyone had this happen recently since my original post?
