Hello,
Not sure if this is the correct place for this question to be but : I just purchase a AUTOart G.S Vette model. I have been trying to find one exactly like my Black '19 with the red hash marks that I added but this is the closest that I was able to locate. I "think" the paint on the model is acrylic. I want to paint the white sections of the hood, top and hatch black and the hash marks on the fenders red as well as the calipers.
I have GM Black touch up paint for my car but it is Acrylic "Lacquer" ,continued after pictures >>>>>
will that lift , peel the paint on the model. I can try it on a part of the car that is hidden but those areas are a flat black color.
Thank you in advance for any info you can offer !
Rich

I am not sure, but, I believe a lot of these model cars are powder coated. Even if it is paint, I am nor sure how GM Black touch up paint that is Acrylic "Lacquer" will mix. I think going to a hobby store and getting some model paint to match the color might work out better. Or better yet, call,
I did something similar not too long ago. Tried to find a Blade Silver 1:18 scale C7 to match my '19 but could only find a Z-51 model with black/red interior and brushed spoke rims (my Stingray does have Z-51 rims) so I went to the craft dept at Wally Mart and picked up a small bottle of flat black and semi gloss black. Got home and disassembled the model, used flat paint on the interior pieces and gloss on the rims and it turned out pretty well.
I would just use a spay can of gloss black enamel. I would think that would work just fine. If its just regular black, (no metallic), it should match just fine. I think the problem is going to be painting the yellow hash stripes red. You are going to need some good fine line masking tape, you can get that at any auto body shop supply store. Maybe you can find a piece of red decal and make you own hash stripe decals. It might be easier to change the hash stripes on your car to yellow, LOL just kidding, you should be able to do it. Be patient, it will just take a little time. Please post a picture when completed.

Funny you said that it may be easier to change the car itself. I told my wife that !! <

I would paint the whole model not just the white. That way you are assured it will all be the same color. The only thing you will have to do is to hand paint the emblems. I did it to match my shark gray and just used a rattle can. I never saw a model that came apart so much and easy. It made it easy to paint.

Enamel or acrylic will cover most every type of paint. Lacquer may attack the paint on the car unless a primer is sprayed first.
Agree that painting the whole model would be a good idea. Depending on how much effort you want to expend, wet sanding the model with 400-600 grit aluminum oxide paper would help the primer/paint adhere.

The touch up paint is Acrylic Lacquer, not sure if that will lift the paint on the model ! Will try in a hidden spot to test. What say you ?
Thank you,

Testing in an inconspicuous location is always a good plan, particularly with acrylic lacquer, as it is thinned with standard lacquer thinner which can attack other paints...
