I am looking into replacing my oem x-pipe for an aftermarket one that cancels the secondary cats. I was wondering if I can get some feed back on which pipe to get Borla, Corsa, etc. I've tried looking them up and seeing what they offer but I want one that is going to sound great and give me that rumble without going the header way because I also live in California. I have Magnaflow Competition Series Exhaust #19379 that I will also be installing with the x-pipe. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I vote Corsa as I have it and love it, but the Borla and AWE are also good pieces many members like. Your best bet is to listen to sound clips and better yet hear some in person to make your decision.
I was under the impression reading here for a long time that replacement X-pipes are going the way of dinos due to emissions. especially in CA. Wrong???
Yes, I found them easy to install, good fit and no drone.
Name brands make sellers more money and advertise more. Its just a couple pipes.
Ken
Thanks, hadnt heard of that brand. My local performance muffler shop has said they have put them together before for about $250 but I just dont want to run in to a drone issue. I know its just a couple of pipes but they are bent in a certain way and presumably a change to the design could introduce some drone

True, the OR xpipe is no longer being made, so if that is what someone is after one will need to check out the for sale section, and most of the companies who made the OR are not really making catted versions so really what you have read is not wrong, there won't be many producing them any longer.
As for another post saying an X is just a couple of pipes, which is true, but I will say they are not all created equally. I will stick with proven product for manufacturer that's been around for generations and producing quality pieces that have zero drone.
DRONE is subjective, removing the cats , adding in a true 3 inch , front x or rear x pipe to the axle back in no way can create drone ......like said above, it's pipes and has nothing to do with "tuning" the exhaust , it's said that a front verses rear x can change the tone but ...I love when people make claims that they picked up power , in most cases its been proven to reduce torque
The only real difference is in how it's made , the fit , the finish , the type of material .... it's not rocket science building these pipes
Only time I ever experienced drone was when I went straight pipe on a true dual camaro with headers and high flow cats. It was right around its cruising rpm in 6th. I had to install bullet type mufflers to cut the drone out.
I've heard the 3 most common x pipe designs in person and on the road, they don't have drone. I think as far as testimonials and dyno runs are concerned, the corsa is the one that does the least hp gain. Corsa also sounds the best in my opinion, just something about that double helix really makes the sound come out nicely.
AWE is 3 inch single x.
The manzo type/ebay pipes have resonators welded into the secondary cat locations but are true 3 inch pipes and also locate its x similar to the AWE. The resonators cut some of the upper frequencies allowing more bass tone to come through. I think the resonator style is very close to stock due to its resonators cutting the upper frequencies making cruising in low rpm quiet, yet sound absolutely bonkers when above 3k rpm just like the other x pipes.
Due to the emissions issue, you can probably only order the AWE for a reasonable price. Ebay/manzo is pretty much rare to non existent or over priced on ebay due to rarity.
Your best bet is used; just ensure you get a tail pipe expander if you find a used x pipe.
Drone to me comes from the mufflers/CB, the midpipe hardly ever plays a roll in drone, but like others have mentioned it is subjective so some maybe will find the xpipe drones, where me, I never hear anything from the midpipe that reminds me of drone
It's all personal preference. There are negligible performance gains, so it's all about what sounds best to you. My experience with the Corsa X-Pipe was less drone than stock. Holding highway speeds, the exhaust almost goes silent.
