Default Differences between 2014 and 2016

I have a 2016 coupe and my brother recently bought a 2014 coupe. I’ve driven both cars extensively and keep noticing differences between the two. Both are heavily optioned with mine being a 2LT and his is a 3LT. Both are automatics. Are there any differences than the ones I’ve noted below?

8-spd vs 6-spd
No forward facing parking cameras on 2014;
No flat bottom steering wheel on 2014;
Hatch must be latched manually on 2014;
PDR not available on 2014;
Cruise control set speed not displayed on 2014

I remember GM talking about a new resin they started using in 2016 that shaved 20lbs off the car.

If you have the NPP exhaust, the 2014 has less mode selection options compared to a 2015+ model.

Both have NPP exhaust but I hadn’t noticed the difference in modes. Thanks!

They're both good cars, just a gadget or two here and there is the only difference. None of them make any difference in the driving and enjoyment you get in either vehicle. I guess the biggest difference is the A6 vs the A8 transmission, is a non issue to me, both are good transmissions. From what I have heard and read, the 14 with the A6 may actually be a little faster in 1/4 mile. Maybe you can line up and race them and tell us the difference.

As far as driving pleasure, I prefer the smoothness of the A8. The closer ratios are a little less harsh shifting under average driving conditions. I was a drag racer in the ‘70s (IHRA modified production and gas) but my reflexes aren’t what they used to be so I’m more into road trips than competition. His has the Z51 option and has a very stiff ride. I prefer my smoother base suspension.

As you have probably figured out the tranny is the real difference, with those swearing by or at both of them.

Yes, and I prefer the A8 for its smooth shifting closer ratios. Mine had the torque converter replaced in 2018 so maybe they flushed it and used the new ATF. It doesn’t shift particularly hard and no shuddering as has been reported.

The Z51 option being stiff depends on whether or not you have Mag Ride. If I have it in Tour it is very comfortable. If I have it in Sport, it handles very well!

The front camera has saved my undercarriage a few times.

The 2014 has mag ride but is still much stiffer riding even in Tour mode than my 2016 base suspension. Probably the lower profile tires.

I love the forward cameras on mine.

This ‘14 briefly shows the set speed in the center of the instrument display (as does my ‘16) but it does not show the set speed next to the CC icon like the ‘16 does.

Sounds like the ‘14 wins in this particular comparison. A6, Z51, MRC. It’s the performance car where the ‘16 sounds like more of a cruiser.

With all due respect that conclusion is wrong as the A8 is a better trans than the A6 (reliability not withstanding), and the 2016 also came with the z51 and MRC.
