I had some touch up (factory exterior) paint left, just dabbed it on the chipped spots. That was two years ago and looks fine. Don't know why its held up. There's probably better choices, i.e. heat resistant paints but that's my anecdotal tale................
I had the same problem. I hear it's pretty common. I found some vinyl lettering on Ebay in Torch Red and decided to give them a try. They went on really easily, look good, and I think they'll last a lot longer than the paint.
Sharpie Red paint pen from Home Depot , it's enamel so u need to lay it on wet . Scrape odd old letters , clean well with alcohol , get the tip wet , then outline the letter , then go over it again so it's "wet" . Make a mistake , clean it off and do it
My bet is that they did not clean off the mold release
