I realize this an older thread but wanted to post my experience which is like a couple other members reported 2 qts drained 3 added, i have a new to me 2015 non electronic rear diff with 22,880 miles on it,
While it didn't seem to be very really dark fluid but wasn't clear enough to have been a recent change, also the silver color while stirring it the drain pan and the typical ferrous metal on the magnets. I used the Valvoline 75/90 full syn flex fill pouch, overall an easy job and my OCD is cured for the time being.
