I notice that when I leave the car running and go into the house for something, anyone can enter the car and drive it! I thought that the keyfob would have to be near the car for anyone to open the doors and drive. If I turn the car off and leave the car, it automatically locks. Why does the car remain unlocked if I leave the motor running and walk away from it with my keyfob not near the car? What am I missing? I can manually lock the car if it is running when I depart from it and it is locked. But I thought with passive locking it would lock walking away from it even if the motor was running.
Keyless Access will lock several
seconds after all doors are closed if
the vehicle is off and at least one
transmitter has been removed or
none remain in the vehicle.
There is a thread on this. Why would the car still drive after you put the transmitter on the roof and ran into the house for something, took off and the fob fell off and you get to your destination, you get out shut the door and the doors lock. Then you realize you don't have the f'n fob! You remember you put the fob on the roof for a sec and forgot it was there. Yep, that's what happened to me. Thank God my brother found my fob in the street by my house. I now have a back up fob. But yes, don't walk away from the car when its running. Ever! And make sure you have your fob on you..
That doesn't answer my question. Why don't the doors lock if I leave the car running and carry the fob with me? Let's say I want to leave the car running. I go into the house with the fob in my pocket. I'm not anywhere near the car and the Fob is also not near the car. Why are the doors not locked and someone can enter the car and drive away?
None of our cars do. All continue to run unlocked when you walk away, although our two Hyundai products emit a beep when you do so as the key leaves the proximity of the vehicle.
