Just got a email from Chevrolet for an GPS update for $60 off, final price $99. Newest edition....is it worth it? I have a 2016 and has never had an update. Looking for some advise before I spend the money.

I did the updates several years ago for my C7 and Impala - pretty easy to do and seemed to work a bit better than the original version that was installed on the cars. For $99, it was worth it to me. YMMV.

If you use the NAV and travel unfamiliar roads, and/or there have been a lot of road changes where you do drive, I think it's worth it. Though it is certainly not a must have.
If you travel often it is worth it. If you only drive around in a well established area of the country it probably isn't worth the update.
I can't honestly say it was worth if for me, even though I do the updates, because I never know if they have added anything to the maps that would not have been there for me.
I think most of us use our cell phone for Nav, especially those of us with Apple Carplay / Android Auto.
I would still consider the update however because I do use the speed limit display in my HUD and it bothers me that it is out of date and occasionally incorrect leading me to drive the wrong speed.
It is worth it. The update will bring the maps up to the level they last captured the data which was probably 2019 since the release is a 2020 release. GM updated the hardware and software for the Nav system in either 2016 or 2017 so you may be able to catch a later update than people that have 2015 and older cars. What GM is offering at this time is probably the last chance you have to bring your car up to the latest map version. With the car out of production, they won't update it again so when supplies are gone that will be it. I have a 2015 GMC Terrain and the last update available for it was released in 2018. For several years the last update available for the C6 Nav was released in 2013. It is no longer available so if people didn't add it to their C6 Nav they are stuck with whatever version they had. OEMs don't really provide a lot of support for cars that are out of production. Everybody is assigned to work on the current production car or future production cars.

That is a common offer at the end of the calendar year. The next version will be priced at $159 right after the first of the year if they continue to offer updates. If yours has never been updated, it is probably worth the discounted price because speed limits are updated with each version. The data used for updates is usually a year old when the new version comes out, meaning the end of year discounted updates have two year old data.
You can check with Helm for further information if they are willing to share details.
It's probably helpful to those that use NAV on their C7 regularly.
I use my Maps feature on my cell phone almost exclusively. My Maps has REAL TIME traffic patterns that can save me from entering traffic slowdowns and snarls.
I work and travel mostly in the Dallas Fort Worth, Texas area.

The GM NAV doesn't have REAL TIME traffic.
It does have traffic, you just have to pay for it via SiriusXM. I use it, actually works really good.
To answer the OP, yes it is worth it. I use it all the time because Apple Carplay sucks in our cars. Would constantly crash and lock up on me while using it. Works 100 times better in my Kia!

I agree, that it's worth it, and that the update will bring the maps up to the level last captured. I'm not sure what the "level last captured" is, but the current release is actually labeled "V.2022", rather than 2020. The release available last year was, unsurprisingly, "V.2021", so I'd guess it's been a couple of years since the "2020 release" was available. I've also read that this is probably the last update for C7 systems which, if true, makes it more desirable than previous releases.

This offer is somewhat common at the end of the year. As stated above, however, there may be no "next version" for C7s which, if true, makes it more desirable than previous releases. In my experience, (some of) the data is well-over a year old when the update is first released, especially in areas (like mine) with a lot of ongoing construction. For example, the 2019 info with which my car came didn't include the (now) 8+ year old street on which I live.
Helm markets OEM Owner & Service Manuals. GPS map updates are marketed by HERE Technologies.

My Maps on my cellular plan doesn't "crash," and costs nothing.....there's no advantage to paying more for the NAV you have then.
I normally keep my GPS units up to date, and will with the C7Z.
When the email arrived in my inbox on Friday, i took the bait. Unfortunately, the shopping cart app failed while attempting to enter a credit card number. I tried again on Monday, still failed. Maybe tomorrow while relaxing for the evening it will finally work.
And yes, I did report it and no, they have yet to reply.

I placed a order on Sat 10-09-2021 and it went thru and got a reply that they got my order today. And i will get a message when it is shipped !!!
We got the 2022 update for our 2017 yesterday and it installed easily, just like the previous updates we've done.
The 2022 instructions are very specific about possible damage to the system if you drive the car during the installation, regardless of what the Nav screen says.
As others above have mentioned, this may be the last update available for the C7; we just don't know for sure.
When updates were a disc that you physically placed into the unit, you could purchase a disc from someone else and it would work in your car.
Since the thumb drive updates for the C7 are VIN-specific, when GM stops making updates then people will be out of luck.
Had my 14 GPS updated today at dealer but I have my doubts that it was done right. When I went into settings and went to Map software it came up with a different number then what I have been reading. It started with a 2 and it’s a 14 Stingray Z51. I’ll pull the number later and get back to the Forum with it.

As I understand it, 2016-2019 MYs have a newer generation (i.e., v2.5) Infotainment/GPS system than than 2014 & 2015 MYs. Recent discussion is focused on the latest (V.2022) update. It's possible that's not compatible with your system.
