I've had two windshield replacements on C7s.

Safelite did both, and both flawlessly!

Awesome Dave- thanks for sharing your knowledge! I didn’t know any of this but now I’m sure I won’t have any problem getting it taken care of.

OK. So this relates to an MB but here goes. Why did my rain sensor fail to work with the one of those tier 1 glass pieces? The blamed the sensor till MB verified that it was working and only would put one with the 3 pointed star on once I bet them that it was the glass or I'd eat the new sheet? Fun fact, the rain sensor worked again with the MB supplied one but not with the Tier 1 glass? Installer of 20 years swore he never saw a non MB one fail.

In Massachusetts, I just had my windshield replaced 2 weeks ago at Safelite. I happen to have Grundy Insurance, through a local insurance agent, and when I put in the claim I was transferred to a windhield "specialist. It turned out to be a Safelite claims specialist who took the claim info, even though I wasn't required to use them. The service rep taking the claim "automatically", without me mentioning it, said he was going to request an OEM windshield due to it being a Corvette, specifically inquiring if it had the HUD option. I chose Safelite and I was required to take the car to their shop for the install. They went out of their way in communicating to me that due the nature of the Corvette car, and Corvette owners, they were having their most experienced installer (30 years) do the install. I spoke to the installer and he assured me he would handle the install as if it were his car. They confirmed that it was going to be an OEM, GM branded, replacement. There was no problem getting the windshield as it was only 1 week from the claim to the install. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was the Franklin MA Safelite.

Golfman1867 and Mikesa - Thanks for your input.

I will be contacting the installer on Monday and see why they cannot find a windshield, especially as you both have been able to in the interim.

I can assure u that it was not the glass .... of course the MB dealer is going to say it's the glass ...... they tell us that all the time instead of finding out the real reason

Fun fact .. I have a C class AMG and guess what brand is in my car ... hint , it does not have the 3 pointed star and all my options work fine

Second fun fact , what do you think MB has a bunch of German munchkins making glass .MB glass bent by all three of the above mentioned companies...

I don't know. Can you explain why it tests out good but doesn't work with the safelite glass but once we change it to the one we got from MB, it works? I agree MB doesn't make glass but I have no idea about the spec of the glass they get vs what Safelite gets. I can only tell you that the rain sensor didn't work on one sheet but on the other and the tests they performed were verified by a personal friend who followed the book as he was trained by MB. Safelite told me that his word don't count since he wasn't working for a dealer so we went, on their dime to the dealer.

Why is MB or other brand glass being discussed In C7?

Especially if the dealer is being brought into the discussion?

My point was that I am not sure about how well it works with the HUD. If I had a 1LT, no worries. If I have HUD, I am concerned that if the spec is wrong, it might not be as good as it can be. In the case of my MB, the spec was, IMO, off enough the rain sensor didn't work. Could that also happen if the car has HUD that it doesn't work as well? I understand the theory that because it is made by the Big 3, it must be the same product in different boxes. My experience was different. YMMV

Both my Safellite HUD replacements were with after market glass, which was marked exactly the same as the original windshield minus the GM stamp.

So I would say yes, the optics work just as well.

I hope that helps.

Fair enough. I personally would not want to go through the same issue I had. In all fairness, as a manager of that store, I would have insisted I go through the same process so no blame. I felt that while I was inconvenienced, the process I had to go through was fair and necessary. Had I known then what I know now, I would have paid the difference for OEM glass. Sure, I got OEM glass for the price of Safelite glass but what is my time and hassle worth? Probably would have gladly paid the difference.
