Windshield replacement

Never a problem with any of 'em (but I did insist on OEM glass)

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
The facts are important, plus location too.
It is no different than the GM dealers, discount tire stores, Oil Change places......
Be specific about location.
I have had good resultd with safelite in Webster Tx. Replaced several windsheilds. Always insist om OEM glass
Discount tire- I've had really good results at Tomball Tx and Texas City Tx. But would never ever use DT in Katy Texas.
And as I said above do u even know who makes the oem for GM ? ... and it can be purchased elsewhere...
Do you due diligence... and sometimes that might not point you to the dealer ...

Have missed two track days so far due to the crack in the windshield (does not pass Tech Inspection).

Ive previously had 2 windshields replaced by Safelite on Toyotas I used to own. Each time they did a great job and it really was a non- event. I called them and told them what kind of car I had and they took care of insurance, etc. One was done in their shop, one in my driveway.
One part of my question you already answered- when it comes to windshield replacement, a Corvette is just another mass produced car.
Reading this thread has just caused me more confusion- if I hadn’t read it I would’ve done the same thing. Call to have it replaced, take it to their shop (probably) and have it done.
Now I read all this about OE, OEM, aftermarket vs. manufacturer, blah, blah, blah. I really don’t know what the difference is, if any.
If I call Safelite or any other reputable installer here in Phoenix do I really need to specify something particular? I just want a windshield I can see through that doesn’t leak. Just because it’s a ‘Vette does it need to be so complicated?
Thanks,
Mark
Not sure who the preferred supplier is currently for Corvette, but you can tell by looking at the dater stamp on the windshield. Mine is a 2015 and AP Tech (Asasahi) was the OEM supplier from their facility in Bellfountain Ohio.
There is a difference between the HUD windshield requirements and non HUD.
The projects and image to the inside surface of the windshield which is reflected back to the driver. The windshield is 2 sheets of glass laminated together with a vinyl interlayer. With a non HUD windshield 2 reflections occur - 1 from the inside of the windshield and 1 from the inside surface of the outer sheet. There is a phase difference between the 2 images which creates a fuzzy image and optically blurry. Some people have reported this after purchasing the non HUD cheaper windshield.
The HUD windshield has an extra (MSVD) non reflective coating on the inside of the outer sheet so that it does not reflect from this surface and as a result the driver only sees one image which is sharper. If you don't have HUD you don't need to spend the extra $$.
For HUD I would recommend the OEM windshield.
As for installation, as mentioned, the dealer probably knows the best installers and generally the dealer calls a glass shop to do the work and will stand behind the installation quality.
My installer recommended GM glass due to HUD and luckily I called him before my insurance company with the claim. He informed me he's had trouble with some insurance companies only covering aftermarket glass on anything over 3 years old. Mine being a 2015 I was expecting to pay the difference which was about $350. He then stated since I hadn't filed the claim there was a way to get GM glass 100% covered and no cash on my end.
Get the glass I want installed and submit the invoice for reimbursement. None of his customers using this process had been denied full reimbursement so that's exactly what I chose to do. It did take a full month to the day for the insurance check to arrive, but it covered the full amount...no questions asked though the entire process.
Good luck with your installation!!

All of these manufacturers make a quality part that will fit fine and cause no issues as they are all OEM suppliers and hold thier standards much higher
You don't even need to ask for OEM , just ask for AGC brand if u want OEM as its the same part used on the assembly line except you are not paying for the GM branding in the "bug" at the bottom corner
XY , Criminex , and certain PGW parts you need to stay away from
Feel free to PM me if you like
