The current version merely has you check for the software number.
I checked a local address that was new and it found it so I'm better than I was with the original maps from 2013 (or earlier).
Four years ago I bought the update for my 2016 GMC Yukon I had at the time and they had me confirming the update with an newly added business address, which confirmed the update was accomplished. Being bored, I checked to see if the part number also updated in the "Software Information" under "Settings" and it "did not" update! I asked the dealer about it and they said as long as I followed the instructions and the place stated in the instructions was there, it updated. They presumed there was a problem in either the new software or the firmware causing the part number not to update, hence the reason to validate using a new location added with this particular update. So it looks like GM might have finally fixed this fault somehow, maybe for some, but not all models??

We ordered the 2022 update for our 2017 on October 4 of this year. The instructions include the verification by using a Domino's Pizza address, which we did and it verified.
FWIW, I have a 2014 that I performed the V.2018 update on while driving. This was prior to the instructions being changed to require that the car be parked.

I just did the 2022 update last week. If you see that Domino's your good. The reason they have you look for THAT specific Domino's is because it was added to the 2022 update... Any year prior you "should" not be able to find it.
You don't need another confirmation...
^THIS
The confirmation process in the instructions specifies that specific Domino's.
Also, "If the vehicle is left parked and running with the RKE transmitter inside the vehicle, it will continue to run for up to an hour."
Owners manual, Driving and Operating (Pg 186 in the '19 OM)
The thing is that the onboard GPS is really only needed and useful when off the cellular grid... but those places are the very ones that get the least amount of new roads and changed traffic patterns. So I am just skipping these updates. I'll find the Dominos... if I were ever desperate enough to eat that crap... on Google Maps.
I will never again update an automobiles gps. I’ve splurged twice and both times, roads that had been improved by a more direct route were not updated after 4 years. Bypasses around small towns on state and US highways have your car out in the boondocks as they are not shown after a 4-5 year completion/opening date.

Had a similar experience on both my C7 and '11 Mustang nav updates not including significant roads for a year or two. Decided to buy their $100 end of year sale every three or four years, making it ~$30 a year per car for "new enough" info.
