Speakers
Different speakers will help some, but the real downfall of the C7's audio system is the Bose processing. Sadly even the best speakers will still be using the messed up Bose signal.
I've posted this before but this graph shows the C7's frequency response plotted at two different volume levels but normalized for comparison. The yellow zone represents "ideal" sound.
The built in Bose EQ - that you can't turn off - boosts bass (low frequencies = left side) too much at low volumes (blue trace 71 dB) then cuts all bass out at high volume (pink trace 98 dB) to prevent their cheap speakers from blowing. About 1/2 up in volume things levels out and aren't too bad, but the system lacks the seriously lows and really high frequencies to give you a full and rich sound experience. As the saying goes: no highs, no lows... must be Bose.
To fix this you need to access the audio signal before the Bose amp stomps on it. However adding a real subwoofer and some different tweeters would be a good starting point based on what my calibrated mic and software plotted above.
- Noise reduction / stereo upgrade project
- What are you guys doing with the Stereo System? Anything?
Good luck!
