Default Question for Virginia C7 owners

Do you folks run your cars with the front license plate and license plate holder in place? If not, any interactions with law enforcement about that?

I have the front plate on. I know a few friends here that have received tickets for not having the front plate. At one time the state govt was debating dropping the front plate but so far nothing

I have the aero plate holder on my 2016 TR Z51 coupe.
Since it is the old “Arrest Me Red” sports car, why take the chance 😜

I'm running with the front plate on the OEM holder. Don't prefer it, but not a big deal.

I live in central Va and have owned dozens of Corvettes over the last 44 years and never ran a front plate and have never been pulled over for it.

I run the aero plate bracket on my 2016. I trim down the bracket to the size of the license plate. Also drilled small holes thru the license plate to loose the screws that hold the bracket to the grill if I want to remove the plate and bracket. No need to give the LEO's another reason to stop me.

I guess that if you choose not to display a front plate, you are inviting a "meeting" with the cops

I guess in my case, they simply haven't responded to my invitation in 44 years.
If they ever do and I get a summons, I will be most polite to the office, thanking him/her for their service to the community and pay the fine.

I don't run a front plate. I've been told that they can't pull you for that now by itself but can cite you if they pull you for another reason. I just like the way my vette looks without it. I'm sure I just jinxed myself by responding to this thread LOL

I've run my Corvettes without front license plates since 2012. I've been stopped twice for speeding (verbal warnings only) and have never had the front license plate even mentioned. I've been to Corvette car corrals at COTA and Laguna Seca and observed that at least 95% of the cars did not display a front plate. Same observed at the Ferrari and Lamborginni corrals. The owners manual acknowledges that the front plate holder does interfere with engine cooling and suggests it be removed under track or high heat conditions. I keep my front plate under the passenger seat and and have taped that section on the owners manual to it in case it ever becomes an issue with a LEO. 🚘🚘😊

11 years in VA with 2 c6's and current c7- never a problem yet having no front plate visible. On the c7 I have a plate bracket that folds under the front and if stopped my plan is to plead forgetfulness since I didn't raise it up after the last wash! Its credible at age 77.

I do have the front plate mounted on the factory aero bracket/plate. I do not mind having the front plate at all. One day I will end up in Florida and I may or may not remove that aero plate. I actually like the look of that factory aero plate without a license plate attached.

That looks good. I removed my large plate holder an hour ago; there's some slight rubbing on the bumper paint along where the top edge of the holder made contact. I don't think it will be too hard to polish out.

2017 Owner Manual- "The front license plate bracket or aero panel should be removed for track events and competitive driving to improve engine performance."
Same thing in the 2017 Corvette Track Preparation supplement.

I too seem to recall something about overheating (instead of generic "engine performance") but can't find it in print. Anyone have a copy?

I moved mine over so not blocking the air intake. I found a simple silicone rubber edge trim at an auto parts store. Drilled the plate and then small pilot holes in the center of the chrome trim piece. A couple of SS screws and white plastic screw hiders (Lowes) and there it is. I had read about people hiding that chrome w/ black tape to give the grill a different look. I figure if I ever want to change things, the screw holes are pretty small. But if they bother me, black tape to the rescue.

Sorry about the double pics. It's a single in the edit screen but shows double in the post.

Use the OEM front plate holder on my 2019 GS. I do not like it, but why take a chance?
