Today I installed a set of Wet Okole seat covers on our Stingray. When re-connecting the neg. battery terminal I got a pretty good arc. I assume it was because of all the electronic stuff on these cars and the load they carry.
Is this normal? When it was all back together everything seemed to work o.k. but it does have me wondering.
If you had the doors open then the headlights would have turned on.
They draw a lot of current which is what caused the large spark.
Thanks to everyone for the replies.
I think jaki30 hit the nail on the head for the reason the arc was bigger than I expected. I should have thought of that, but I'm still driving a couple older vehicles than don't have this feature, so I didn't even consider it. Yes, both doors were open since I had the seats out and battery disconnected.
Looks like you have an explanation for the arc and I will say the new seat covers look very good. How was the install?
Thanks Vetteman,
The install went pretty good. Most difficult part was figuring out how to remove/disconnect all the small things like the covers for the nuts at the front of the seats and the covers for the seat belt attachment. I watched several Youtube videos, but none gave the specific details of how to do this. Basically just "pry apart here" or "release this clip"
Once I figured out those things, the next most difficult task was lifting the seats out of the car by myself. While not extraordinarily heavy, they are not light, and a bit cumbersome.
I can't see any way possible to do these while in the vehicle; at least not by yourself. I'll probably pull them again at some point to install some sound deadening material.
