So, I have not been successful in finding a fix in the forums for my issue. The outside rear trunk release button located near the license plate used to work but no longer functions. I have the fob (with new battery installed a couple months back). I have the fob on me in my pocket when I try to use it. I have tried using the manual key hole near it to open the trunk then reclose it and test the button...still nothing.
The vehicle is an m7 and is turned off in neutral with e-brake on.
Any ideas?
Yes, the trunk release button near the steering wheel works as well as the button on the fob for the trunk.
Have you had any work done in the rear of the car that requires removing the bumper cover? If so, the connector linked to the switch may have not been properly re-connected. If not, you may have a bad switch. Did it ever work?
The trunk-release mechanism, including the key function, works which I think points to the switch itself. The rear bumper isn't hard to remove, so in the absence of any other ideas offered by others you may need to do that to access and test the switch.
Put your fob near the driver's door to ensure your 'new' battery is not the problem. Some new batteries are weaker than our cars like and some are downright DOA (not your problem).
Many people have trouble using the key in the back so don't assume that is part of the same problem.
