Default Side marker lights/led

Who has changed out their side marker lights? What brand did you go with? Any issues?.
I have read a few posts of people changing theirs and having issues.
thanks

Yes, read all the threads, there are dozens.

Some had interference with TPMS using one of the forum vendors.

Some had LEDs go out after a while.

I have the Oracles and have been most happy with them except that the driver's side rear sticks out a bit, not completely flush, like the others for some reason. No TPMS interference. No dead LEDs, yet after about 7 years. I did rewire them so they are "European" style and flash with the turn signals and turn on when the car is running, like driver's running lights do.

Just installed Oracles. Haven't even pulled out of the garage since but they look amazing! Yes, they are not flush but I don't even notice it. They just look too damn good. I didn't get the painted ones. I got the tinted amd ceramic coated them.

I have a set of the LED side markers and bought them from JW Motorsports. I have experienced the TPS interference, specifically with the front passenger marker. It only happens, obviously, when the lights are turned on and you get up to say highway speed so for me it hasn’t been a problem since most of my driving has been during the day or in town driving.

Reports are that the Oracle lights do not interfere with the TPS so that is a plus for them.

I installed the JW Motorsport LED side markers. I have only had a one time problem and that was with the front passenger tire warning light. It was at highway speed. I am very pleased with how they look and fit.

I haven't upgraded theses lights, yet. I would get the Oracle lights and avoid potential issues. They are more expensive but worth the premium if they work without issue. Other brands are not as reliable based on info posted by unhappy members.

I initially went the less expensive route but would intermittently get a TPMS fault on the right front.

Now I’m running Oracles. Not one single glitch AND they did a better job with the LED alignment on the circuit board.

Flame Red,

I'd love to follow your lead on making the side marker lights turn on when the car is running, and flash when the turn signals flash. Would you be so kind as to tell us how you rewired your car to make those two things happen please?

That's interesting about the interference with TPMS.

My front passenger side TPMS just all of the sudden "turns off" and has no display on the dash, and later comes back on.

Anyone find a solution to the TPMS interference issue?

Perhaps the frequency that the LEDS of the less expensive lights emit (electromagnetic interference -EMI) interfere with the TPMS. I know GM used different frequencies on certain model years. This could explain why some owners have or haven’t experienced any problems. Also, all four TPMS transmit at different frequencies.

By the way, my right-front ONLY triggered a failure on the cheaper lights and only at
high speed and obviously mostly at night when the lights are on.

I never really posted what I did, but I can outline it for you. It was pretty involved.

I bought a new set of connectors that plug into the side lights with the required proper pins. You can get them from Mouser. The connectors are Mouser part number 571-1-1718643-1 and the pins are Mouser part number 571-7-1452668-3

I then ran 4 sets of wires, each set, with both positive and negative, to each light to the BCM in the passenger's side foot well. That is not too hard.

I attched the two BCM diagrams for the turn signals. There is one for the the right turn signal and left turn signal. I used a "posi-lock" connector to tap into those turn signal wires off the BCM and used that as input to two standard 5 pin 12V relays. These leads trigger the relays. The other trigger lead I grounded.

So one relay controlled the lights on the left side, and the other on the right.

I powered the relay from a "engine running" lead. If I remember correctly, there is one fuse in the engine compartment fuse panel that is only +12V when the engine is running. There may be one on the BCM but I did not want to touch the BCM anymore than I had to.

So I used the 87A plug on each relay to the positive wire to each light.

I grounded the other leads for each light.

So normally, when the engine is running, each relay provide +12V to each light. When the turn signal is used, the BCM "flashes" the lead to the relay for that side, and the relay goes on and off in tandem with the BCM signal which flashes the two lights and they blinks on and off. When the engine is turned off, the +12v disappears from the relays and the lights go out.

If you need more details, I'll have to do some research to remember what I did.

Hope this helps.

I reached out to ACS today. Asked them about reliability with their side markers. They confirmed that they have not experienced issues. They did say that theirs's only have 2 led bulbs like the OEM markers and that may the reason they haven't seen issues. I kind of like the more subtle effect of the 2 bulb OE design. I am looking for the dark effect of the Lense so these may be the one's for me. We'll see...

Is there any perceivable difference in brightness between the Oracle clear and Oracle tinted (no paint) side markers?
