Thanks for all of your comments. I will definitely avoid the China filter and check out Rockauto. And Catfish, thanks for your thoughts on the difficulty to replace it. Sounds like a search on YouTube is called for.
I hope I didn't misrepresent the effort needed - there's not a lot of difficulty involved in removing any of the individual components; I just kept finding additional parts that needed to come off in order for me to be satisfied that I wasn't stressing anything beyond it's breaking point to move it out of the way. Kind of an 'are we there yet' feeling. If a technician was trying to beat the clock, he might take a shortcut and leave something in place, pushing it out of the way and causing it to crack or break. I know I won't ever take a shortcut.
So should I wait longer to swap it out? My 2017 is five years old and has 16,800 miles on it.
Makes me miss the good old days of the round air cleaner housing on the top of the engine. One wing nut and - Bam! - new filter in less than a minute. HA! My thoughts exactly!!
It's obvious that those who design modern cars never want to be the ones who have to work on them. True. But I do give them credit for their creativity in finding underhood (or underdash) space to cram in all the necessary equipment that today's vehicles require.
I continue to be amazed by Corvette owners who quibble over price on oil, oil filters, air filters to save a few dollars on a $60,000 vehicles. OEM replacements are usually less than a tank of gas.

Believe it or not, there is a difference between "quibbling" and shopping for a good deal. I don't need anyone to spend my money for me (I have a wife).

A Corvette's yearly maintenance costs are very similar to other vehicles I have despite having an MSRP that is 2X. Filling the dry sump with 9 quarts of 0W-40 is maybe $40 more. Now what is expensive is tires

Golly ... I'll bet that the 9 quarts of 0W-40 oil for $40.00 is from the same supplier of the $17.00 air filter!
Yep. Thanks to him bringing us Covid, my local McDonald's went from paying $9.13 in 2019 before Covid was heard of to $17 today. Maybe we should not have made him Dictator for Life since that means he has unchecked power and can eliminate Congress and pack the SCOTUS with his henchmen.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
