I read that by using a multimeter you can perform a load test. Hook it up, start the car, and see how low the votes go while starting. Is this a valid test? We all know you want to replace your battery before it dies.
I guess is could be a valid test if you know what the voltage is supposed to look like while starting. Why not just take it to an auto parts store and let them load test it for free? Actual battery load testers are a better way in my opinion.

No, that's no a load test. There are various tools that perform this function. It's done by simply hooking the tester to your battery and following simple instructions. These tools can be inexpensive or you can spend a lot of $. Here's an example of 1 at Harbor Freight:

Jud, I have a 2017 C7. The battery is way in the back under the cargo area. Is there a way to do the test from connections under the hood?
I really don't know. If you have a GM shop manual for your year, though, it should tell you how to properly load test the battery.
However, I should mention that i also own a '16 MB S550 coupe and the battery is in the trunk close to the back seat. MB says the battery must be tested there. Believe me, that is quite a job as you have to remove several panels to access the battery and crawl into the trunk to do the test. (YIKES)
