I owned a chain of auto parts stores for 16 years and we sold lot of Sta-bil. as they say "the customer is always right".
My experience with the parts stores is the best additive depends on the month. My favorite was when I asked the Irish guy (IIRC) why SeaFoam was the best when last time it was Lucas. Without missing a beat, he said "New research"

Yep, we sold a ton of them all.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of additives for fuel or oil, as your vehicle was manufactured to run with gas in the tank and oil in the crankcase not that and everything else someone wants to sell you.

I'm not a fan of unproven stuff based on good hopes. Fair warning, if I bought a Parts store, I would cite all the testimonials I can find to sell it.

My counter sales persons were very knowledgeable, and we didn't try to 'push' additivities on anyone. If customer brought one to the counter we rang it up and took their $. If they communicated their circumstances/issues then we would give them an honest and knowledgeable opinion/direction.

Interesting. Every physical shop I go to these days tries to sell a credit card, service plan, membership or something like that. Even eBay has a protection plan. I'm waiting for the day someone tries to sell me a service plan when I buy a soda, jerky and chips.
Based on the information that I've been able to find, some fuel stabilizers do actually help some with corrosion issues. K100 and Sta-Bil seemed to perform best in most of the tests at helping to stop corrosion introduced by ethanol. None of the stabilizers that I saw tested did much if anything about the evaporation of the lighter molecules in the gasoline. K100 had the best corrosion resistance, but apparently it will freeze sooner than most.
The general conclusion was that the best way to prevent problems for "normal" storage times (several months) was to do what you can to eliminate ethanol from the tank by storing it with as close as you can get to 100% gasoline throughout the fuel system..

I'd be curious to see a laboratory test and not just something someone cooked up in their backyard. I can't remember what the test was about but 2 boat motors one with and one without were disassembled and one was clean and the other was not. AFAIK, that is not a proper laboratory test. I don't accept that the makers of the stuff haven't got the money to commission a proper laboratory test and publish it. They instead choose to rely on SOTP testimonials. In my book, 1 laboratory test is worth an infinite number of testimonials in this case.
Get some real gas 91 or 93 octane, add 12 oz of techtron (one container) drive it to mix it and get in the the fuel delivery system, **** yes, but mine sits 4 months a year.
IDK if Techron is a fuel stabilizer. Although it claims to work for diesel, 2 stroke, 4 stroke, small engine, etc. Probably will help my ELECTRIC snowblower too.
When i park my car for the winter i put Stabil in and connect my Deltran Battery Tender. I started doing this back in 1987 with my first C4 and never had any problems.
