One isn't better than the other although they are quite different. Some people prefer a naturally aspirated engine over a supercharged one, different power delivery and sound. At higher speeds the extra power of the Zo6 is quite noticeable but within legal speeds and a little above not so much. You can roast the tire on both cars from a start. An extra 100 pounds sitting on the front of the Zo6 is noticeable. I drove both several times before I knew which I preferred. There is a lot more to a car than Hp and torque. You need to drive both to decide which is right for you, an internet forum full of opinions will not answer your question for you. I would give the nod to the Zo6 if you wanted to race on a track and could handle the car. if you are just driving on the street and enjoy carving out the curves with plenty of power the Gs is a great way to go.
I have a 2016 and just had to replace my stock wheels this year. Two rear wheels developed cracks and wouldn't hold air in them any more. The front left was bent and created a noise when driving over the speed limit.
Went with Gerry at Custom Wheels for less and bought some flow forged wheels. Was about the same price if I were to replace with stock.
Z06 all the way. The GS is nice but if your on the fence you need to go with the Z and then you'll never have doubts.
I use my GS on track. It's more than enough for any track.
The Z06 horsepower is incredible for the street. It's just fun to blast around highways & streets in a split second.
I know it's opposite of intuitive, but people track Miata's for a reason.
OP. If you are planning to keep it for a long time and/or put a lot of miles in it, then get the newest one you can get for the money. Also look for the well kept models, both inside and out. Don't just base your purchase on HP alone. Write down all of your wants, be honest to yourself. When you buy that car, you are the only one that has to live with it. None of us really have to warry about any issues you may encounter. That car has to satisfy you at the end and not us. We will of course help answer any questions you have to the best of our ability, and celebrate with you on what ever model you get.
Z06 is better than the GS is every way except fuel mileage. If you have the money, you won't regret the Z06 purchase but you will regret not going for the Z06 if you buy the GS but had the ability to get a Z06. Don't kid yourself. You want the Z06.
The Zo6 is so much better than the Gs, it is amazing Gm even made the Gs or was able to sell them. With the Zo6 you get to spend $20,000 more and pay more for maintenance and insurance to have 190 more hp.that many people don't need, want or will use. You also get a car that is over 200 pounds heavier with about half of the weight sitting on your engine which negatively affects handling and requires a stiffer front suspension to help counter it. Another advantage to the Zo6 is that if you live in a colder climate you will definately be warmer as Gm was thoughtful enough to put a very small supercharger in the car that has to spin very fast to make its power which creates a lot of heat although you may find yourself sitting on the side of the road if it overheats in warmer weather or on a track. Although many reviews have said said the Gs is the better balanced and handling car I am sure they were lying. The Gs and the Zo6 may look the same but the Zo6 is by far the only one to consider. lol.

I'm in the minority but get the GS, see if its enough and if not there are plenty of supercharger kits for 7 - 10 K which can be added.......no losers here though

You’re right about nearly everything except the weight difference is about 98lbs, the cost when new was around $14k for similar cars, and why would the maintenance be more? The rest is correct, it’s just a better car.

The weight difference is around 200, the supercharger alone weighs close to 100 pounds. If you are using 650 hp versus 460 you will go through fuel. tires, brakes and most everything else faster. Power costs money. In Canada the price difference when I was looking around was $20,000. That currently equates to $15,000 U.S. Realistically the only thing the Zo6 has over a Grand sport is the power, in every other category it loses. If someone likes a supercharged car with its characteristics and wants another 190 hp. versus a naturally aspirated car then the Zo6 is the car to buy but the Grand Sport is the better car all around and you get to keep $20,000 in your pocket.

by your reasoning, just buy a z51. The only extras you get with the GS is a wide body. Save yourself the money. I don’t understand how it “loses” in every other category.
I’ll keep my Z06 and outrun your GS all day every day.
