I've been wanting to record some drives from the interior, but wasn't happy with the options. Trying to use a suction-cup mount from the rear glass is too far back. I didn't want to mount hanging from the windshield as it would obstruct vision and at any rate would be nice to see some of the interior. I'm too tall to use a head-band mount. The camera is pointing straight into the front crossbar in that case. Was on a drive the other day where a friend was driving and the roof panel was squeaking as it often does and noticed that if I pressed up on the interior panel behind the seat, the squeaking went away. That got me thinking about adding an adjustable vertical bar that could add pressure there. That in turn got me thinking that this could be also used as a camera mount by adding a horizontal bar too, and the position would be perfect. So, picked up some wooden dowels and some adjustable felt pads designed for furniture, cut and assembled and this is what I got. After that, mounted up the GoPro and took a short drive. Pretty happy with it. Looking forward to trying it out on autox and my next road trip.

Yeah, jury is still out on the squeak. It seems to mainly get noisy when the temperature is over 80 and it's been cool here in Seattle the past week. Keeping my fingers crossed. Would be wonderful to have a fully rattle/squeak free car.
If you’re car is a 2014 or 2015 coupe, there was a TSB for the squeaky targa top. It replaces the mounting hardware. Mine was awful way back. I have a 2015. The repair completely eliminated the noise.
Back road near Flaming Geyser State Park in Washington. There's almost never anyone on that section, though only runs for about 5 minutes. Sadly, we had a hotter day today and I found that my squeak solution didn't solve the squeaking at all. But it still is a nice mounting point. I'll leave one more video in parting for this topic from autocross today. I shot it with the highest focal length setting in GoPro (Hero 5), which is "normal". Probably would have looked better slightly wider with the "linear" setting. Next time.
