Yes Max, it would. How do I know? Had one go on my BMW years go, and one on my Camaro. Also, for those still commenting and worrying, please see post 16. The man has already ordered new tires.

yes, hence commercial where they ran a hole saw into the sidewall the size of a golfball and it worked fine

I don't know about Mavis or Costco, but I've received honest advice from several different Discount Tires shops over the years. If I show them a problem and ask if the tire is safe, they typically say that it is safe and explain what their criteria are. The times when they told me to replace were pretty obvious, and covered by their road hazard warranty anyway.
