Appreciate all the advice. Never could locate the key or any paperwork regarding locks. However, 4 19 MM 12 point sockets and a breaker bar later and they are off with no damage to the car. The dealer I purchased the car for is reimbursing me for the 4 sockets, so all in all no worries. I cannot really understand how these are much of a deterrent. I got them off in about 30 seconds.
My alarm goes off if I bump the car or reach inside to grab something. Hitting it with a hammer, to set the socket, might make enough noise to make somebody interested.

Yup, not a deterrent to a determined thief but might prevent a casual attempt to take your wheels. I never installed mine von my C7 for that reason.

I think a thief knows that. They also know that few people pay attention to these alarms. I know I don't. Every time I have heard them go off and looked, it is been something stupid. In a parking ramp, I have managed to set them off with my exhaust when I hit it. They'd have an impact with the lug nut removers to buzz them off first then they can take their time. Besides, you people behave like you don't have insurance. Let the companies worry about getting you new wheels less the deductible and you can worry about what kind of wheels you want to get with the money. If you have the OEM ones that are prone to cracking, let them steal it so you can get better ones on the insurance dime. Why worry about not having the key to remove it and all that?
I have to laugh at people that think losing their wheels is like no big deal. They have not really thought that through. Hopefully they will never have to learn that lesson.

Why do you say that? I have lost my wheels before. Once in the last 30 years. Can you explain what there is to think through? Sure, it pissed me off but on the flip side, I didn't waste time trying to make sure it didn't happen again so the stress is lower. What did I miss?
BTW, I had things stolen from my shed. Also had someone break the driver side window on my SUV and when I forgot to lock the car door, they stole my ATV gear and the wife's cell phone which they used to call back home. We did get them arrested and wasted my time in court and didn't even get my merit badge for my civil service. I can also tell you that I didn't lose any sleep wondering how the next event will unfold and let my insurance pay for it. The deductible vs my lower amount of worry? Money well spent.
look at the places those cars in the stolen wheel pics were parked.
The third pic was just a parking lot, so no idea what the area looked like, but the first two pics were parked in total dumps
if I were going to a dump like those areas I wouldn't be taking my Z that's for sure

So what to take? I have a truck that is also worth about the same money. You going to have a beater car to do that? I have little to no business in the hood but it's a toss up of which car to take sometimes.

I'd take my daily, which is worth close to as much too but it's simply about which is
a) more desireable to theives, where big wide corvette wheels most likely are
b) which is more important to me. My daily is way more easily replaceable than my manual daytona orange Z07
