Weird but I don't see a '2' as in Dexos 2 on the new label.
The new Dexos rating is "Dexos R". The new 3 color dexos sign (black, red and white) with the checkered flag is the sign for "Dexos R", so it does not have a number or a letter in it like we hade for dexos 1 and 2.
it's darn close
guarantee 1000% if you ran two identical engines side by side under normal real world conditions for 50k miles and tore down you'd see zero evidence of any difference
The weight is right. The rest, I honestly don't know. If it is under warranty, I definitely won't do it.
Without a UOA, I don't know who can say if there is a difference in wear and longevity or not.

I trust my dealer and they ask me which one I want. You will see the part # on the invoice to verify. They have good techs and dont overfill. About $200 (Canadian) for 5w30 Mobil 1.
^^^^^
Our local dealer is good also and doesn't overfill, but I have him put in 9 qts and give me the final qt to top off at home.
That way I can get the level exactly right, though that's not a big deal; and end up with some extra oil to top off when hard running burns a little.
The caps are interchangeable (at least on the dry sump engines).
In the attached photo, the original cap from our 2017 Z51 (dry sump) is on the left.
The middle cap is what I ordered and installed shortly later, to make it clear that I wanted Mobil1.
The cap on the right is what I bought after GM switched the recommendation to 0W-40.
For most people, what's on the cap is less important than what you agree with the tech should be used.
But we use our car for long road trips and sometimes an oil change must be done at strange dealerships in distant places. Trying to reduce the chances for a screwup...
The cap on our brake fluid reservoir also now says DOT4, which became specified in 2019 though not formally recommended for previous years. Our dealer has been putting DOT4 in the car since we got it, and I have the system flushed once per year for moisture protection.
What is the cost of an oil and filter change for the C7 at dealerships?
for those who do not do DIY, where do you take them?
1) Not really, we can only hope it is the right one.
2) Over where I live, $217 last year. It has most likely gone up now.
3) To the dealer, or trusted mechanic.
I use M1 EP 5w-30 in my C7, and I used it in my C6, NEVER a problem. My owner manual, and oil cap recommend it, so that is what I use.
What did you expect? Mobil paid them to use it and recommend it. Tiger Woods used to recommend Buick because he was paid for it. Interesting factoid. Buick was so good in his eyes that when his gold digging wife got pissed at his fooling around and got into a fight, he had an accident in a Cadillac.
