I decided to start changing my own oil. I see different versions of the Mobil1 0-W40. One even says European car formula. Which one specifically should I buy? Should I buy the one pictured below? Thanks.
M1 0-W40 Super car is the new M1 0-W40 Dexos2 ESP.
I am also thinking about doing the oil change on my car myself before this winter. The only thing I am wondering is if there is a way to update the GM service records data. If i went to the dealer, that database gets updated but at the cost of $220-$250. And then I have to come home and pull oil out of the car to get it to be at the correct level. It is half the cost to do it myself and I can do it right the first time.
Yah, do that for all my cars but I was hoping there was something better. I thought I saw something in the forum about being able to update some database, but I cannot find it. Could be I was looking at something else.

That is the one if you have a warranty. Beyond that, it isn't that important unless you are tracking it and don't want to switch the oil back and forth. Is it better than the 5W30? I think so. Significantly better? I have yet to see proof of it other than "Daddy GM said so.". European Formula is more for MB, Audi, etc.
This is what I use, not the European formula. I heard they are re-branding the 0w-40.
THIS is what I use in my 2019 Z06 7spd manual vert. Around here Autozone, O'Reilly, and Advance Auto do not stock ESP 0W-40, they only have the European 0W-40 version. This stuff is a tad Expensive. Check Wallyworld online for sales.
yeah the Euro one is a slightly different marketing tactic
when they switch over the labeling machine at the bottling plant that means it's for european cars, then when they switch the labels back again it's for ours

I don't think it is as simple as "different label, same content".
^^^
Correct. Among other things...Zinc and Phosphorus content are different. I will leave it to the experts to decipher. My understanding is the Euro formula is slightly better Re: wear additives and our formula has been designed for extended cat life.

Last year I couldn't get Dexos2 0W-40 at my local auto parts, hard to find.
Now I'm ordering online way before my oil change is needed and keep it in my garage. Weird times,

Reason: Spelling
Weird but I don't see a '2' as in Dexos 2 on the new label.
This might help.
"Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 may share the same name as Mobil 1 0W-40 but these two blends aren’t the same and are not interchangeable. Mobil 1 says that while the viscosity is identical, the formulation of Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 is the result of 24 months of grueling tests and precise engineering, and it’s specifically designed to guarantee it meets the strict dexos-spec required for all C7 and C8 Corvettes."

Autozone carries in in some stores and I got a promo mug. I will be testing it this next time I change oil but unless I see something special in the test results, I'm probably going to switch back to the 5W-30 which is easier to get and cheaper.

it's darn close
guarantee 1000% if you ran two identical engines side by side under normal real world conditions for 50k miles and tore down you'd see zero evidence of any difference
