I am going to replace the front and rear chrome emblems, the two Stingrays on the sides and the Corvette lettering on the rear with Carbon Flash OEM GM emblems. I also have on order the 3M adhesive promoter. So, my plan of attack is to use a hairdryer on the hot setting and a good strong piece of fishing line. Once the emblems are off, I will clean the left over adhesive with Goo Be Gone. Then a finishing coat of alcohol to make sure the area is clean. Next step is to wipe the area where each badge will go with the adhesive promoter then apply the emblems.
Does that seem about right to those that have done this?
I haven't made that change, but if I was going to I'd make sure I'd do something to identify exactly the mounting locations for the new ones.
I used painter's tape around the emblems and marked points of reference to make sure the new emblems went back exactly where the originals had been placed.
All the suggestions mentioned sound spot on. Marking location if you’re going with the exact area sounds like a great idea! For me anyways Lol I’d be like no problem easy peasy I’ll remember that. Then the OH ****!! Where exactly did they go Lol
Above advice is spot on, especially referencing existing locations with painter's tape. That's worked great for me with similar projects. Also, I'd use 3mm General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner remover for clearing as opposed to Goo-gone and alcohol.
When ordering new, keep in mind that the front emblem and rear are slightly different size. Good luck!
Thanks for all the replies, I planned to mark the two Stingrays on the sides as to front (nose) bottom and rear (stinger). The front and rear logo flags sit in a recessed area it appears, so they should not be an issue. the letters are always the trickiest. I plan to run painters' tape on the bottom edge and mark the center on the tape.
Run a piece of tape right under the letters. Then run another piece right under the first. Make your alignment marks across both pieces of tape. Remove the first piece carefully and save it. Remove your letters, do all the cleaning, and reinstall your first piece of tape. Apply adhesion promoter and then letters.
