Default Door panel color change alignment

I have a 2014 with Kalahari seats, arm rest and door arm rests. We love the color, and want to add more color to the car. I am adding the batwing, grab handle and dashboard insert in the matching Kalahari. That should be done in a few days.

I've been thinking about the door panels, and read a lot on CF. I noticed that several have replaced the narrow driver door "sliver" to match the batwing, but in threads I've seen, it often doesn't align properly. I also see on the Apsis site that in their examples, it doesn't align. Does anyone know how to do this? Is it really that hard, or just a little fiddly to get it right? If I can figure that part out, I think the passenger door part is pretty easy.

@Jeff V. I know you've done this... any advice?

Here's the pic from Apsis for reference.

Yeah, that is off a bit. Hope you can find a way to get it to line up just right.

When you order the two parts at the same time then it will line up nicely.

But if you order the two parts at different times then it’s hard to line up nicely.

So it’s not adjustable? I know it’s not an Apsis issue, but I did think it could be adjusted.

there is a small adjustment able to be made on that door panel piece. problem is the door panel needs to be removed to do it.

here are some pictures to help, the first shows the brushed panel removed to show the screws that hold that panel on. I have had luck loosening those and realigning the piece to match the batwing. I have also had it on so tigh I was not able to move it. then you have to remove the door panel and loosen the nut circle in red to move the trim piece. it is worth the effort to try and do it just by removing the brushed trim piece.

Thanks. I was envisioning an on and off sequence with small adjustments until it’s right. Sounds like that’s what it takes… but it’s possible to get it right with patience. Thanks for the pics!

The part circled in red - is that a nut? Looks like it could be a nut, or could be a hex bolt, or even something special. What kind of tool is need to remove that?

There's no point in removing that sheet metal nut. It's the pivot point for the trim piece. Once you loosen the little 7mm screws on the other side, you can rotate it forward and back slightly.

Yeah, my question was about removing that "spear" to replace with a different color of leather. I know I have to remove that connector, but can't tell for sure if it's a nut.

Oh, gotcha. It does have to come off for that. It's got an internal hex to it. You could either find a nut that fits and then slip a socket or wrench over that, or do like I did and use needle nose pliers. I pushed the pliers outward into the hex and twisted it off. It's a flimsy sheet metal nut on a plastic peg. It doesn't take much force to remove it.
