Default Weighted Shift *****. Why they're a good thing!

Interesting info on the benefits of Weighted Shift *****.

What is a weighted shift ****? (raceseng.com)

Yes, I'm partial to their Shift *****. Used them on 4 cars over the years.

No better way to do product research than ask the people trying to sell the product.....

The effect of a weighted **** is definitely noticeable in smoother travel and engagement as you shift. Night and day effect over the OE ****... IMHO.

I've made my own ***** for almost everything for years, for myself and friends, from 2 1/4-inch black Belgian cue *****... around $6 each. I've found if there is vibration or other noticeable effects, I simply take an assortment of BIG steel drill-stops and install on the shifter shaft under the boot and it "smooths" things out. One of the few times I had to do so was on my C5 (which I also still have).

Alot of modern cars with cable shifted transmission actually HAVE weights on the bellcranks on the transaxles! On rod shifted transmissions that go directly into the box, there isn't a place to put the weight so I could see people wanting a weighted ****.

I've tried 1 lb + ***** to hollow machined Delrin that probably weighed 90 grams. Heavy ***** may make it slightly easier to "fall" into gear and may damp vibrations well, but they also lose feel over lighter *****. A light/mid weight **** lets you feel precisely when the synchros are matched and you can slide into gear. The extra vibration also gives you more info on where the shifter is.

I always felt like the shift throw (both gate and actual length throw) and **** shape were more important than weight. American muscle cars and Corvettes always seem to advertise/sell round pool ball-esque ***** which I personally don't like. An oblong oval like Honda has always offered in thType Rs along with very light shifter action which has been a hallmark of Hondas, are benchmark as far as I'm concerned

Some say they are bad to use due to increased wear on the shift forks.

It comes down to who you listen or want to listen to! I've had MT cars for decades. All had weighted ***** added and I've never had an issue. Hands on experience doesn't lie.... YouTube videos are a dime a dozen!

He's tuned a few thousand cars and runs a very successful parts brand and tuning company. But it sounds like his statements much like the ones here are anecdotal.

I'm a fan too. But I can see where an aggressive technique AND a weighted **** might be a problem. I like a smooth shift, and a weighted **** really smooths out the MGW shifter.

My collection includes some unweighted, some weighted, a Raceing, and my current favorite which is solid bead blasted titanium! Not that I care about the alloy, but the weight came out between aluminum which was lighter than I wanted and solid stainless, which was heavier . . .

my google search brought me here. sorry to bring this back from over a year ago. I notice more often than not the oem shift **** translate a tad too much of the crunchy-ness of the gearbox and transmission -

On the website now, shopping for one. Really glad these are options exist.

Well thats a bummer...I do have one of their ***** but wish I would have got the optional divots insert while I had the chance.

THE END OF RACESENG

As a company we see major changes coming to the automotive aftermarket that will substantially affect Raceseng's business model. We've decided to close Raceseng and focus all of our attention on our new venture.

From all of us at Raceseng, this is a bittersweet moment but we must evolve to sustain our livelihoods. Thank you for all of your support over the years!

I wonder if they are still making them, just under a different company name now?
