Thanks Bill. I was able to confirm using Hiltsy's instructions above that I do not have the update. Found another dealer yesterday that quoted me $500. Seems pointless to use a dealer unless I can get them below the $425 that Jim Mero charges. Aside from cost, is there any benefit to use a dealer vs Mero for this?

No, anyone who has the scan tools can do it. 3rd party shop with a GM Service SW license can do it too.

Well, just wanted to close out my fruitless efforts with the dealerships and provide one final update. I contacted 10 dealerships within an hour of where I live. 8 of them were calls where I actually spoke to the service manager and 2 were conducted in person.
Out of those 10:
  • Only 2 had the decency to call me back and say they haven't done this upgrade previously and weren't comfortable doing it. Ok, I understand. I appreciated the return call.
  • 1 outright lied and said the upgrade wasn't for my vehicle. Don't lie, just tell me you don't want to do it and be done with it.
  • 2 said they were willing to do it but only 1 of those 2 actually knew what it was and had experience with it. That one wanted $750 to do it. The other wanted $490 and said GM was charging them $350 to download the software and they were charging $140 for the labor to upload it. More BS...
  • The remaining 5 never returned my calls or emails after the initial discussion with the service managers. Great customer service...
I'll be going the Jim Mero route now. For those of you that have good dealerships around you that provide great service, I'm happy for you but I don't think that is the norm. I get the feeling that most are either lazy or don't like knowledgeable customers that they can't take advantage of.

SMOOTH dealing with Jim Mero.

He sent me my new module. It took me a minute to realize that the module's holder has two "belt clip" type attachments, so you have to push the unit upwards about an inch before it will pull away. Super easy after that. I could probably change out another in less than an hour.

I disliked the Sport and Track settings, previously. Just too bouncy. My wife HATED them. Now, on the highway, Sport is nearly as smooth as the old Touring. Track is still tight, but it should be and it is not nearly as bouncy to me.

Mr. Mero refunded my deposit this morning, after I got the core back to him.

I don’t see anything on Jim Mero’s website about an upgrade to a C7. There are only options for doing the C7 upgrade to a C6 Corvette. Is your car a C7?

Copy and Paste directly from his website...

C7 Owners

We recommend obtaining the upgrades from the dealerships as they are less expensive.

Having said that, if you can’t get the upgrade offered by the dealerships, which is a common experience, we can upgrade your cars with our new calibrations. Our calibrations are different and better. However, if you already have the dealer upgrade, we would NOT recommend our upgrade as the improvement between the dealer upgrades and ours is small and not worth the added expense.

Included with our C7 Z51 upgrade is a new track calibration which greatly improves the drivability on the track, decreasing lap times.

The improvements over the original OEM calibrations are at the same magnitude as the C6, so all C6 descriptions and testimonials will also apply to the C7’s.

The pricing is the same as any of the C6 upgrades and can be found on any of the pages describing the C6 calibrations.

We are also looking for any C7 owner(s) who are interested in developing a Drag/Roll Race calibration.

I talked to my dealer locally (forgive me if I posted this before), they haven't done it before, but as long as it is a GM update they would do it for me at the advertised price. So I will give it a shot in a few weeks.

Mero looks pretty classy, telling people they don't really need to buy his product if they already have the GM upgrade.
Not what we are used to hearing from other people selling upgrades of any sort.

Jim Mero Programmed my C7 Z06 and with quick turnaround and core refund. He offers a few upgraded choices. I went with the nicer smoother Tour mode wife likes this the best, with upgraded Sport mode. In Track mode I chose what Jim says is Super Sport. I don't track my car and for street corner carving I use the Super Sport Mode (In Track position.) I highly recommend to use his service and forget going to the dealer. Too many questions on if they know about the upgrade and how to install and verify. Its an easy swap or if you want, and any competent Mechanic can do the swap. There's a little more room on the wide bodies, the Stingrays are a bit tighter. There's a few You Tube video's on the swap.
