Default 2014 Lifter Issue

Hey Guys, I'm a C2 guy so not really up to speed with the later stuff. A friend has a 2014 6.2, 55,000 miles, and it sounds like it lost a lifter. It cranks like it has low compression on one hole, definitely a dead misfire and valvetrain clatter. I'm trying to help him decide what direction to go before we tear into it and there's no return.

A few simple questions:

1. Has GM extended any warranty or program to help people with failed lifters? The local dealer said no, and the parts dept. has plenty of parts on the shelf for the job.
2. How often does it wreck the cam- commonly or less common?
3. If the cam is toast, I see guys talking about pulling to motor to do a cam swap- is this the norm?

Any info or comments are appreciated. I'm a CMAT, CMTT, L1, L2 etc but this is out of my comfort zone. There's an awful lot of hits here when you search "lifter" which is pretty frightening.

Thank You!

I would get a professional opinion before I tear into a motor like this. I would also do a compression test to verify low compression. I believe the cam can be changed with the motor in the car. Car is too old for GM to want to offer any help. Good luck!

Chances of GM covering any costs are pretty much non-existant on a 2014. I agree with getting a qualified Vette tech to take a look at the car before doing any major repair work unless you absolutely know what you are doing.

I'm curious how the car was driven and taken care of before this happened.

Could be a DOD lifter. They are known to fail. Since the heads need to come off, I would go ahead and install a DOD/AFM cam.
