Default AFM Device

Has anyone had to remove their device in order to pass emission inspection? Last year my car (16 Z51) failed the test. The tech had me remove the device and drive it for a couple
of weeks. after reinspection, it passed. I reinstalled the device and continued on my merry way. Now its tim for another inspection and I've removed it prior to getting it inspected.
Thoughts?

We do not have emissions testing here, but if removing the device allowed for passing the test the last time, can’t hurt to do the same this time.

You need smog testing every year?
It is every two years in CA, and yes, I plan to remove the Range device as soon as I get the DMV renewal notice. They usually come in a couple of months before I need to renew and smog.

I take mine out, drive around 100 miles and then I have it inspected ( emissions tested ) and it passes. I drive it home and re-install my range.

You have to complete several drive cycles and ensure you not only drive in stop and go traffic but drive at highway speeds also to allow all of the monitors to show ready.

I had the same issue on my 18 Camaro SS here in CT, they said it kept reading sensors not ready

Took the range AFM out, drove a week, passed easily

I take mine out about a month before testing. It must be removed, in fact, to do the test in Mass. They plug a computer into the same port that the devise goes into. LOL

The Range device blocks all signals to the data logging sensors. That includes OnStar diagnostics. Removing the Range unit opens up the communication path. It requires a few drive cycles before the sensors can repopulate (ready status) the data logs.

Exactly why I decided to sell it to whomever wanted. I don't use Onstar for anything after the free trial but I prefer the monitors be in readiness and if they are not, there is data to tell you why. I detest the "foolers". I got the Diablo and had it remove AFM, like the range and increase throttle feel and have a firmer shift. AFAIK, it keeps the monitors doing their job.

To answer the OP's question, I'd take it off and keep it off till you pass. After that, do as you will but I recommend getting a programming solution for the AFM and sell the Range to someone else.

That's exactly what I did and for the same reasons.
