I have a range device on my car and I wanted to know, do I need to remove it for a certain amount of time before getting it smogged? The First Smog check is coming up next year probably and I just wanted to check.
I am in the same boat as you. From what I've read, posters said remove the Range at least a week before the smog check and drive it (~50 or more miles) both freeway and traffic.
I will remove mine once I get the smog notice which is usually more than a month before due date.
Thoughts on if this is a function of time disengaged, miles and variations on and or time driven. Expect CA and IL have different success criteria too - but seems hard to sort. Suppose I'll find out more in 2024 or later. Lot's to learn.
hi all, I failed the smog test in Tennessee back in 2021 (I had just moved from California)
I removed the AFM before the test, but it still didn't have enough completed cycles without the AFM to pass
I drove around for 2 weeks, added about 200 miles and passed with no issues. The failed smog will probably show up if someone ran a Carfax on my VIN- ugh!
The good news is Tenn has decided to get rid of annual smog testing.....whoo hoo
Yes it's a good idea to remove the Range and drive letting it go into V4 and V8 on its own before going for the inspection.
I just had mine done and I drove for 2 days in a row before hand, with a few high way runs and city drives, and some stops for a while, and go again each day.
Passed with no problem, better save than sorry
