What about using a CLUB as an anti-theft device. I remember when the Hundai cars were being stolen at record rates, local police departments were giving away new CLUBS to help control that until the vehicle manufacturers stepped up to the plate did their electronic changes to combat the thefts.
Every time when I leave for vacation for a number of days my fob goes into the faraday box and I install the CLUB on the steering wheel.
Have been doing this for over 10 years not to mention how secure my garage is !
The faraday pouch and aluminum foil will stop the radio signals that go back and forth between the car and the fob. However, thieves aren't going to be chasing you around while you are away from the car so whether or not the fob is transmitting isn't much interest to anybody.
Thieves know where you will eventually be so will set up near your car and capture the fob signals while you have the fob out of its protective wrap. The fobs that came with my Tahoe were able to unlock its doors when the batteries were new from about 400 ft away. In a crowded area, you may not see somebody that far away (1 1/3 football fields) from you.

Thanks Bill. So let’s say the thieves target your parked car at a mall. They wait until you return and then capture the signal from your fob when you unlock the car. Do they have to steal the car at that time or do they now have your code stored and simply follow you either home or to your next location where you park the car?
I could imagine a cars and coffee or Corvette show would be an attractive event to these would-be thieves.
Just wondering on members thought on Faraday pouches for vehicle remotes. After talking to a few family members and friends about all the stories about stolen vehicles at a get together. Two who are in law enforcement said they are being stolen by different ways not all the same way. Then hearing on scanner of three cars stolen from a near by store with in a few minutes of each other where they said owners had there fob and key for vehicle as they were talking to the police officer . I decided to try the Faraday pouches for our remotes as it will supposedly stop the signal from being pick up by thieves using a device and then boosting signal to open doors and starting vehicles. I never heard of these before I talked to a friend who’s what I would call a tech guy so I checked into them. I recently bought some for our vehicles remotes. I did a test using vehicles in driveway and garage. I put a fob in each pouch I could not open door to vehicles with fob in pouch obviously I could with fob out of pouch. Open door put fob in pouch I couldn’t start vehicles took fob out of pouch vehicles started. So think Faraday pouch’s seem to work as advertised and for 9.99 for 3 pouches I thinking it worth using Faraday pouches to help try to protect our vehicles and make it maybe a little more difficult or eliminate one way for someone to steal. The only hassle using pouches is having to take fob out of pouch each time you want to enter vehicle and vise versa having to put fob back in pouch after exiting vehicle, but I’m getting use to it. I’m not a big tech guy so was thinking there maybe other members not familiar with these were info about them might help them out and for those who are what’s your thoughts ? A waste of money ? But at 9.99 I figured can’t hurt to try.
We are using them as well. It's a little bit of pain to use, but seriously reduces the chance of someone capturing your fob signal. Much less trouble than going through the hassle of trying to replace a car.
I have a Stingray skin wallet I got from a friend of mine. I really like it and it came out before RFID became common.
I got the heavy duty aluminum foil from the top of a coffee can. I cut two pieces a little larger than my credit cards. I put them on either side of my credit cards and my work badge.
When, I went to work, the reader did not acknowledge my badge. When, I pulled the badge out, the reader read it.
We have been using these pouch’s for a few months now and works great. Most using on our Sierra and Acadia as Corvette is still in winter storage. But have test pouch with Corvette numerous times. I’m very happy with how they work blocking signal. Only hassle was getting use to having to open pouch and pull out fob to unlock / lock doors and start the vehicle’s. So I think they were worth the 10 bucks for three pouches and possibly stopping vehicle from being stolen.
My car is inside my garage so I have little concern about access to it. It's while I'm out and about and or at dinner when the concern stepped in. This is why the Faraday pouch was my choice. It's very slim and is comfortable in my pocket. Also, I'm not going to want to carry around my keys outside the house with foil wrapped around my keys.
