Just wondering on members thought on Faraday pouches for vehicle remotes. After talking to a few family members and friends about all the stories about stolen vehicles at a get together. Two who are in law enforcement said they are being stolen by different ways not all the same way. Then hearing on scanner of three cars stolen from a near by store with in a few minutes of each other where they said owners had there fob and key for vehicle as they were talking to the police officer . I decided to try the Faraday pouches for our remotes as it will supposedly stop the signal from being pick up by thieves using a device and then boosting signal to open doors and starting vehicles. I never heard of these before I talked to a friend who’s what I would call a tech guy so I checked into them. I recently bought some for our vehicles remotes. I did a test using vehicles in driveway and garage. I put a fob in each pouch I could not open door to vehicles with fob in pouch obviously I could with fob out of pouch. Open door put fob in pouch I couldn’t start vehicles took fob out of pouch vehicles started. So think Faraday pouch’s seem to work as advertised and for 9.99 for 3 pouches I thinking it worth using Faraday pouches to help try to protect our vehicles and make it maybe a little more difficult or eliminate one way for someone to steal. The only hassle using pouches is having to take fob out of pouch each time you want to enter vehicle and vise versa having to put fob back in pouch after exiting vehicle, but I’m getting use to it. I’m not a big tech guy so was thinking there maybe other members not familiar with these were info about them might help them out and for those who are what’s your thoughts ? A waste of money ? But at 9.99 I figured can’t hurt to try.

As you found out these may minimize key fob capture. Also, depends on how effective the pouch is on squelching signal radiation.
But they won't be effective if someone within range while you are driving, parking, or when getting out prior to locking the car captures the key fob info. Note that the signal will be diminished while in the car (vette not as much and even less if a vert) and the key fob has to be exposed for driving.
Also, as the newness wears out and the inconvenience of the pouch sets in, a lot of people will quit using the faraday pouch.
As an example, I have a faraday container for our household near the front door to store the key fobs when not being used. I still use it and family members did for a few weeks. Now it's just me.
Put the FOB in the pouch and see if it works disabling the signal and if so at what ranges. Good luck.
When I put fob in pouch the door locks on vehicles would not open even if I was standing right next to door touching button on door or if fob was in pouch and in kitchen which is next to attached garage , driveway by door and windows. Also tried putting fob in pouch on bedroom dresser by window which is along side driveway and garage and no doors would open. So it appears pouch is blocking signal.

I'm a cheapie, so for several years I've been putting the C7 and Caddie ATS-V key fobs in our trusty aluminum coffee MUG. It appears to do what faraday does.
Started using a Faraday pouch a couple of years ago to store all the car FOBs as soon as we walk into the house. It's second nature now and don't even think about it-good habit to get into. As theives get smart, you have to be smarter.
WOW , just saw a video from Corvette Blogger that was from Martin County , Florida where they used an electric device to steal a C7 from a Dealer. The area law enforcement said first time that they actually have video of use of this type of device. C7 was gone in seconds ! Not sure Faraday Pouch would have help stopping this probably not. Holy crap it was gone in seconds! Like I said earlier I’m not a tech guy so I wasn’t able figure out how to show / link video.
The faraday pouch and aluminum foil will stop the radio signals that go back and forth between the car and the fob. However, thieves aren't going to be chasing you around while you are away from the car so whether or not the fob is transmitting isn't much interest to anybody.
Thieves know where you will eventually be so will set up near your car and capture the fob signals while you have the fob out of its protective wrap. The fobs that came with my Tahoe were able to unlock its doors when the batteries were new from about 400 ft away. In a crowded area, you may not see somebody that far away (1 1/3 football fields) from you.
i just gave this as a Christmas gift to my brother along with a jewelry box for all keys that cuts the signal to the fobs. If he likes everything I'll get the set for my keys as well. You can get everything off of Amazon.
What about using a CLUB as an anti-theft device. I remember when the Hundai cars were being stolen at record rates, local police departments were giving away new CLUBS to help control that until the vehicle manufacturers stepped up to the plate did their electronic changes to combat the thefts.
