I tried searching the forum but didn't get a match. I have a new to me 2017 Z51 2LT with 41,000 miles. I like that I can display the current posted speed limit on the dash and/or the heads-up display but I'm finding the data is not always accurate. Trying to figure out where that speed limit data originates from so I can correct it. If it's from Navigation does Nav need an update? I'm still on the all inclusive On-Star trial period so I would think that information sourced from there would be up to date. Any thoughts?
Nav needs to be updated. Honestly, probably better to just turn it off and use AA or Carplay for all navigation. The built in Nav is just so outdated with no real time assitance.
That is not entirely correct. I have updated tne Navigation whenever there is an update. I run Waze on my phone at the same time, for alerts on LEO's and stuff in the road.
I find the updated Navigation to be superior to Waze. Going through Los Angeles and converging with the HWY405 from the HWY101, Navigation gave me a shortcut that saved me 45 minutes. Waze did not even mention it.
Plus, all my directions go ro the Heads-up Display. I do not have to look away from the road.

I found the GM nav to be very poor and out of date even with keeping it up to date. In fact there are many roads it didn't display a speed limit. I find Waze or Google maps way better and more accurate. Even the nav system in my Kia Stinger is better than the GM one. And that you can update for free.
The nav system in my previous Volvo was really cool. It actually had a camera that would read road signs, like for speed limit, school zones, etc. It would work in conjunction with the nav system.

You're a regular user of Waze but you don't know the name of the app?
Update your nav and you will get more accurate speed limits. I find my nav has it's uses around town vs pulling out the phone. And yes, google maps will be more up to date.

You have to purchase the updates from the supplier to GM (threads are posted on here, usually when the updates go on sale). The updates are VIN specific and come on a USB flash drive.
