I looked into a front camera but decided that I'm just too old to be on my knees in a twisted position for that long plus $500 seems a little much. I did come up with a novel idea that won't cost more than about $35. I am going to look into mounting a choke cable tip just under the lip sticking out about four inches with the **** pushed in. If I mount the **** just below the dash on the center console side, I will be able to see the **** get pushed out if it touches an obstacle. The **** is red and should be easy to see. It will require minimal modifications and should be simple. If I got on a rutted road with high spots in the center I could pull the tip back in to prevent snagging it. What do you see as possible problems?
Back in...even easier
You'd need to snake it from the interior to exterior on a route that it doesn't contact anything. And you would need some sort of lock inside so doesn't fly away at HW speeds. Having something hanging down from the lip would look fugly too.
Actually, all I would need to do is to pull the **** in. The only thing that would be showing from the front is the small four-inch wire that would be painted black and it would be sticking straight out not hanging down.
I looked at the old curb scrapers but they are so ugly. The thing I like about the choke cable is that it would be invisible until I pushed the wire out approaching a curb or parking block. If I can figure it out I will post some pictures.
