Not even sure how I would! I just bought a '15 that apparently has OS enabled but I have now clue when or how the guy enabled it. I'm thinking I'll just let his subscription expire and it should shut itself off?
2019 C7 Grand Sport - purchased new.
Pulled my LexisNexis report. GM / Onstar spontaneously started reporting my driving to NexisLexis September 2023. I did nothing to activate anything and have never activated smart driver. I have just ignored Onstar since I purchased the car and do not use a phone app or anything from GM. It just started reporting. I have opted out, once I saw it was active, of Smart Driver, which I never turned on and there is no report prior to September 2023.
I have never activated Onstar services and have paid nothing ever, however, there is one service that is on by default. Connected Services.
I believe the only way to be positive that Onstar is not reporting, is to completely disable it. I am going to remove Fuse #27 and see if that works. My understanding is that I will lose the compass function and the clock updating function (including automatic DST change over and likely timezone changes when driving). But, I believe this is the only way to be positive that GM stops collecting telemetry data that it has no right to be collecting.
Next, I will be disputing all records that LexisNexis received from GM. For a record to be valid, my understanding is it must be proved that the driving events took place with me, specifically, driving. Without proving that, the records by law (if they follow it which is doubtful) must be removed.
One advantage of being nearly four score years old like me is remembering when nearly everyone drove like a NASCAR driver when the cops were not around. I still have a highly modified 1993 Mazda twin turbo RX-7, in addition to two Vettes, that was scary fast. While tooling along on I-40 in NC a few years ago, a Ferrari decided to impress me with his supercar against my cheesy Japanese rotary rocket. I stayed with him up to about 150 mph when I spotted traffic in the lanes we were racing in and I backed off. The Ferrari driver sped through a line of traffic going about 65 mph. If even one of those cars had changed lanes it would have been a spectacular crash.
You do NOT have to have an Onstar plan for this data to be sold. I do not have an Onstar plan but I was opted in to Smart Driver. Install the Chevrolet app on your smart phone, create an account, associate your vehicle(s), for each vehicle go to privacy and opt out. There are guides online for how to do this. My wife's GMC Terrain was also opted in. She had to install the myGMC app to do the same. This was a very bad move on GM's part. Sell you a high performance sports car and then SECRETLY report your enjoying the car back to other agencies which cause your rates to go up. I did briefly view my rating and it was in red listed as POOR. I'm not happy about this at all. I'm opted out now but who knows what this will do to my rates when I renew in June.
Well SOB!!! I have no services, I opted out of the Connected Services in September. And sure enough I logged into the app & the Smart Driver was enabled. Damn crooks!
