Why do you want to change the rotors? The iron rotors on a GS ought to last well over 50K miles. It seems you take it easy on the brakes based on your pad request so change pads and continue to use the original rotors. All you will need to do is follow the burnishing procedure for iron brakes that's described in the OM.

I added them with 14k on the rotors. No issues.

Thanks for replying C5FORFUN2 and ICONIC7 !! So all you did was change the pads? Then of course break them in according to the instructions. You didn't do anything to the rotors? Thanks again!

I had the garage do it while it was in for other maintenance. They said they did the bedding. Didn't do anything else with the rotors.

Yes, just installed the pads and took her out for a drive to bed them. Not even noticeable except almost 0 dust.

I’m tired of the dust and they are ready to be replaced. What are good pads and rotors and what size do I order. It’s a Grand Sport 2017 red calibres with upgraded brake package when I bought it.
thanks.

Is there a way to measure what the effect of the pads are? I mean, I put on a set of whatever pads and I stomp on it and say "This is as good or better than stock." but how to measure it accurately?

Okay, last Friday I put the Power Stop Z26 brake pads on my GS. It wasn't hard at all. All I did to the rotors was spray them down with some (California) brake cleaner. I've put about 200 miles on the car after "bedding" the pads, including a 140 mile round trip into the Sierra Nevadas today. I don't know why in the heck I didn't do this sooner! No problems, no noises, no change in brake feel and best of all no noticeable brake dust!

Too bad the Myth Busters are off the air, this would be a good project for them! I think the feel part of this is something very subjective. Emperically, you could get a few identical cars and equip them with different brakes and run them through a battery of tests at pretty much identical conditions and see which brakes performed the best. "Street " pads on a race track or anywhere where you would get the brakes very hot, what you would suffer is brake fade. That is, the brakes would definitively stop working well or at all. Keep that up and eventually that could ruin the pads and rotors, boil the brake fluid and wheel bearing grease, etc.etc.

If you race the car, that's one thing. If it's just a daily driver and you can't tell the difference, then "upgrading" to super duper expensive pads is a waist of time and money.

Only way we could tell was to set up a tape. Get to a safe speed. Cross the tape and stomp the brakes. Measure distance. Repeat and average numbers. Did it with Powerstop pads and rotors and found a few feet different in Powerstop brakes
