I'm one week into my spinal fusion surgery, and it's killing me that it might be another 2 months before I'll be able to get into my GS. This.....SUCKS!!!!!!!
I had L2-L5 fusion. This is no joke the most painful surgery I've ever had. It was done minimally invasive. but I was still in the hospital for 6 days. If you're able to put it off without causing any more damage I say do it!!
It's inspiration to follow doc's orders and any/all post op rehab you need to follow. Had my neck fused some years ago and that was a joy as well (ah that first swallow post op and don't ask about sneezing)
I was going to ask about how bad it was, but you already answered that. Damn, that doesn't sound like fun at all. I have had knee and hip replacements which were bad enough, but manageable, and I was able to get back in the C7 after 2 or 3 weeks. But my lower back is also a mess. I will put off any surgery as long as I can, but it seems almost inevitable.

That sucks! I've had back issues for 18 yrs, no surgery tho. Everyone gets how you feel. I'd be impatient also, but at least you have one and can peek in the garage and that alone would put a smile on my face.. Hang in there, and no ,I'm not going to tell you to be patient, because that is like poking the bear.. :P

damn. My pain management doc has been great to help delay it all. Nerve ablation procedures and lidocaine injections when necessary keep it manageable as long as I don’t do anything stupid.
Most people I’ve talked to in your situation said recovery is tough but follow the instructions closely!

My wife had 2 herniated disc repaired in the beginning of December.
one is healing, one not so much.
Dr. says it’s doubtful she will ever be able to ride in my car.
I don’t have much hope, but I will just use mine as a spare vehicle forever.
Good luck and hope you heal.
A spine fusion with bone grafts take 18 months to fully heal. And that's only if it's a successful procedure without complications. Ask me how I know...
I've had three back surgeries and I can't count the number of epidurals. I have talked to several who have had the fusion and they all said put it off as long as you can. I'm 82 years old and don't have 18 months to spare so I just live with different degrees of pain. It's funny but the seat in the C7 makes my pain go away and I become a boy racer when I get behind the wheel! Good luck to you my friend and God bless you.
Thankfully, I didn't have a graft. The surgeon used bone from a cadaver. But this pain level is through the roof, and I'm at day 10 since the surgery. Physical therapy starts coming out tomorrow. Not something I'm looking forward to. It's easy to understand how someone could get addicted to Oxi because of the pain.
My last visit to get help was a very well liked surgeon who told me that they could do the fusion but it would have to be through my stomach! It takes two different surgeons to do this procedure. One to cut me open and move my guts out of the way and then the back surgeon comes in and does his job. I ran as fast as I could! What pain?
