Overheating warning
This happened to me just the other day for the first time.
Wife and I were in Newport RI for little vaca, lots of slow city driving and I could hear the rolling fan screaming all the time, ac on and windows down. On our way home we got stuck in a traffic jam outside Hartford for 50 minutes and no issue overheating.
Got to Albany and got stuck in another for 15 minutes and all of a sudden the AC shuts off and I get a message on the dash that "ac shut off due to overheating'. I pulled over and pooped the hood found no leaks and nothing blocking the radiator. Got thru the jam and the minute I hit normal road speed the gauge dropped back top normal in less than a mile. When I stopped I realized that my fan that was screaming in city traffic the day before was not running at all....thus the overheat.
There are some old post on this forum about turning the car off and opening the door and then restarting to reset the fan. You'll never get this to happen at the dealer so don't waste your time with them. My son works at a shop and he tells me there are numerous TSB's about overheating on C7's.
My car is back to normal and the next time I'll know to just shut it off open the door etc.
I'm thinkin' this. ^^^

You have a 2014 which was known to have radiator fan controller issues. This is likely your problem since you did NOT hear the fan running when the car was overheating. The fix is to replace the fan which has an integral controller .
radiator fan controller
