Our car is a 2017 2LT Z51, with factory Nav, now at 56k miles. The Nav got the latest update (2024) last year and has been working normally since new.
Normally I leave the Speed Limit displayed in the center of the speedometer and that works fine, though of course some limits are not in the data base and a few are outdated; no big deal.
A few days ago we were going to a destination about 30 miles away, I entered it properly at home and the magenta line appeared normally. But after leaving our house that's on a local road where the speed limit is not in the GPS , when we got onto a major road the Speed Limit display still had no number. I also noticed that on the GPS screen; the distance to the next turn, next turn arrow, and next turn name; were missing. When we would approach a turn, the magenta line on the GPS screen would show which way we needed to turn but the DIC and HUD had no turn info. This continued all the way to that destination.
We made a couple of very short trips that afternoon without using the GPS, I didn't notice how the system was working.
When we went to drive home that evening, I entered our home address and everything, including the Speed Limits window, worked normally.
Is this just one of those rare electrical gremlins, or is the car telling us something?
I have never set the speed warning - but it is in the DIC OPTIONS menu tree:
Speed Warning : The Speed Warning display allows the driver to set a speed that they do not want to exceed.
To set the Speed Warning, press p when Speed Warning is displayed. Enable the speed warning and then use w or x to
adjust the value. Press SEL to set the speed. Once the speed is set, this feature can be turned off by pressing SEL while viewing this page. If the selected speed limit is exceeded, a pop-up warning is displayed with a chime.
info screen, toggle up/down for speed limit!! i don't know where it is within the nav
The speed limit is not displayed in the nav, the information is stored in the nav but displayed in the center of the DIC, where your tire pressures are shown in your photo.

I've never used the speed warning, what I like is the speed limit display that (when selected properly shows up in the middle of the DIC as a small speed limit sign.

i know where it is, just didn't have that pic to post!!
The answer to your question is yes, it was just a temporary gremlin. I have those occasionally and don't worry about them unless they don't reset the next time I restart the engine.

When I owned my 3LT C7 I noticed that it did that same thing occasionally too. No rhyme or reason when it did or didn't show the speed limit icon. I agree it is rather frustrating when sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Anymore, I don't expect a lot of things to work consistently from a GM product, though, so never gave it much thought beyond that.
I had similar issues with my 2017 about 6 months ago. I was told that the battery could be the problem. It was the original battery from when the car was new. I bought an AC Delco replacement batter from the Chevy dealer and installed it myself. I haven't had any of those issues since. If your battery is the original one it's time for a new one!

I located the speed limit on DIC (any mode / info) and HUD and both indicate on main streets and state highways. Neither shows speed limit on minor residential streets - probably not in the NAV database.
Now I'll probably never look at speed limit again.
Today I made five trips:
1 - didn't notice if I had speed limit or not
2 - didn't display
3 - displayed
4 - didn't display
5 - displayed
I don't think I've ever had it that flakey before.
