when driving my 2016 stingray, suddenly feels like I'm driving over rough roads for several seconds and goes away.this occurs without actually being on rough roads.it will happen several times during an afternoon drive.has any one experienced anything like this?any suggestions.
You’re getting transmission shudder. A common problem with the C7 automatic A8. You will need to have what they call a triple flush done to replace the transmission fluid properly.

Does it feel like you’re driving over some rumble strips? Do you have the A8 automatic transmission? If so, sounds like the dreaded shudder. Very common problem with tons of comments about it. Solution seems to be a triple flush of the problematic old transmission fluid and replacement with the new improved version.
If you do have the shudder, have the triple flush done ASAP. If you don't, the alternative will be a new torque converter in the not too distant future.
Hopefully, no serious damage has been done. Until you have it serviced, you can mitigate the problem by operating the transmission in the manual mode and using the paddles for shifting. That’ll keep the engine operating on all 8 cylinders. Then, I’d recommend you purchase and install a Range device to prevent the AFM system from cycling the engine back and forth between 4 and 8 cylinders. That interaction between the AFM and the transmission is probably what’s causing the shudder.
I had the same thing happen to me. It sounds like a triple flush is needed. I see you have service scheduled. Good for you. After having the triple flush performed I have had no problems with it.
My 14 has the A6 and I'm getting an intermittent shudder at highway speeds. Seems like a change of lanes sometimes triggers it. When first noticed I thought it was a bad section of road but when I throttle up or down it goes away untill it kicks in again. Not sure if I lost a wheel weight or if the u joint is starting to go bad.
One of my 19's does it too but only on asphalt roads. On concrete smooth as glass. Same speed on asphalt, small vibration through the steering wheel every 2-3 seconds.

Next time you are out for an extended cruise and experiencing that, try placing your shifter into Manual for a while and see if the problem continues. If it goes away, that should tell you something. BTW, does your rpm fluctuate slightly when you feel the shuddering?

Thank you for the input I really appreciate it. Will definitely try the manual. If I'm understanding you're saying afm does not kick in when in M mode I never noticed. My rpms don't seem to fluctuate but I'll pay attention next time. I will say the shuddering stops when you goose the throttle and change speed a little.
then maybe 5 or 10 minute later the shudder is back. It seems like it's becoming more often also.
I went through the AFM triple flush torque converter nightmare. First a 2017 A8 Silverado then a 2018 A8 Sierra both returned to GM over the lemon law. Mentioning because I'm not sure if the A6 is known for this issue?

Correct. Manual mode disables the AFM and keeps you operating on all 8 cylinders. At least that might help narrow down what the problem is. I’ve not heard of any shudder issues with the A6, but I suppose anything is possible. FWIW, I had a base 2016 C7 with the A8 that was exhibiting some disconcerting behavior. Nothing shudder related, but hard or erratic shifts and fluctuating rpm during cruise. That was before the fluid issue had come to light and I was fearful of future problems. I decided to sell it and search specifically for my current 2014 version with the A6. So far, it’s been trouble free. But I also have a Range device installed to keep it running on 8 cylinders full time. Good luck with yours. Let us know if you get your problem resolved and what the problem and fix was.

Offline for a while so sorry for the delay in response but you nailed it! Manual mode takes care of the issue which starts around 80/82 mph when in Auto. Making sure I understand this shudder/vibration around 80 is most likely when my car decides to change to 4cyl. to save gas correct? Great info from a fellow 2014 A6r.
