Default Stolen

Hey just wanted to let you all know that apparently it's not that difficult to steal your car. My gray z06 was just stolen yesterday in Almaden Lake Park in San Jose by an Uber driver in less than 30 minutes I was away on a run. Was locked and there was no broken glass. Uber mini-van driver with very dark windows and glowing sign in back window had followed me down the dead end street and parked in front of me and was gone as was my car.

That sucks man
They use signal catcher/repeaters

Everyone with a keyfob needs to be educated on proper home & street security to prevent them “catching” and repeating the FOBs signal back to the car

Faraday cage boxes or pockets can be bought to keep your keys in it

Sorry to hear about your car, always hate to see that. I wanted the extra security of using IGLA that blocks OBDII port theft and FOB replication. Won't stop flatbed, but it definitely stops several forms of electronic theft. I love the system ($1200 installed), having PIN code requirements to start the car and electronic theft deterrent was important. It's pricey, but was worth it to me.

Yes, but thats also how they do it in public
they were close enough to send and catch the FOB signal most likely.

Samething REPO men do

Many of the offenders are former tow/repo company employees.
Not exactly the most law abiding types

I grew up in Chicago, but I would never take my cars down there
This thread could serve to allow all owners to share their security systems and ideas

Sorry to hear about the theft of your car. If the police nab the individual responsible, hope your car has not been damaged.

To OP- so sorry about your car. That sucks

Would the Solar throttle controller set to "LOCK" prevent this?
It's a bit of a pain to do this every time you park, but it could be useful in sketchy situations where someone follows you down a dead-end street, and you want to be extra cautious.

Add an AirTag. And good insurance for agreed value. If they want the car they will get the car.
If they steal mine make sure to total it. I don’t want it back.

It’s happening everywhere.

You want to go back to what? Bladed key? VATS? They were stealing cars before key fobs and will keep stealing them after key fobs are obsolete.

What would the AirTag do? Unless you plan to track it down and have your posse meet you at the offender's place and beat the hell out of them, what does it do? Besides waste your money? See THIS entire thread. 4 days. By that time, the car is in pieces and shipped.

You and I agree we don't want it back. So if you stole it, I want you to run far, run fast. Neither of us want it back so get good insurance. Cash check and buy something newer and nicer for a several thousand more.
