Another battery replacement question
I bought a 2019 GS last November and decided to replace the OEM battery for peace of mind. Was not having any problems but didn't want any either.
INSTALLATION
I chose to have a dealership's Corvette technician do it. I searched about 4 dealerships and found one that would install my new customer-supplied battery for $80.
There are plenty of horror stories from DIY-ers about the infamous black wire or what a hassle it is with battery weight, difficulty to install, carpet, etc. I chose to let someone who has done this numerous times be the guy to change my battery, rather than trial-and-error by me.
BRAND
I extensively searched the Corvette Forum postings about C7 owners and their batteries (OEM, AGM, various brands, DIY, etc) and decided to buy from NAPA: a AAA 36-month free replacement with 730 CCA. Price was $210 before core refund. It works great. I use a GM battery tender when not driving. No problems whatsoever.
I considered comparable Die Hard, but price was $280. I considered OEM AC Delco, but at the time their Cold Cranking Amps was lower than I wanted.
As one CF poster wrote:
"OEM battery is woefully undersized for all the electrics that are in our cars... 50% of the electrical gremlins can be traced back to a low voltage condition. After struggling with the OEM battery and always worrying about if it would start after sitting for a few weeks I finally replaced it with this battery and I have never looked back." That's one guys opinion, but I have read many of his comments on C7 matters and considered him authoritative. Many have replaced their originals with another AC Delco and been happy with that. I think AC Delco's CCA has been increased.
Enjoy your C7. Getting stranded or needing a flatbed tow truck ain't worth gambling over squeezing a few months of battery life. If you have concerns about battery life, be proactive.
Just like you probably carry a spare FOB battery in your glovebox, just in case. Just my perspective.
