What grade synthetic oil would be optimal for extremely hot weather? I live in Phoenix and my oil is always around 220-230. I just had the coolant flushed and the engine usually runs at 205. Will 10W 30 work better than the 0W 40?
0W-40 should be slightly thicker at high temps and slightly thinner a low temps, that's all good. The 0W-40 probably has a good dose of viscosity improvers to get that wide range of grades (0 to 40). In theory they can start to lose effectiveness after lots of miles and hot running so your oil thins out somewhat, but I've been running the 0W-40 in our car since it got approved and even when I get down to 10% life remaining, lab tests show my Supercar 0W-40 still has more high temp viscosity than 5W-30 has when new.
OTOH, our car is a Z51 with extra coolers and driven in Illinois, water and oil temps in normal driving stay around 200/180, only when I flog it at a track or autocross do I get the oil much above 230. But I still think that 0W-40 is best for your situation, if you don't go more than 5k or slightly more, miles between changes.
I use ESP and now Supercar as it is what was called for (and probably change it more often than needed).
Don't know. I think you are based on my test result. At 0 life by the OLM, it had 4500 miles and they said i could take it to 6000. In my book, there is a test result (obvious disclaimers) or it is a SWAG.

Agreed, but knowing I’ll never follow up with testing I tend to SWAG it on the safe side. For me it’s more about clean vs viscosity given these motors and their propensity to fail lifters, etc. I also drove hard so I go a little early. Again, probably overkill but that’s cheap swag insurance for me.

FWIW the OLM is already overkill. I changed at a little past 0 and found it cut off 8.3% per month for it sitting in storage. Test found that in that respect, it is already very conservative so simple adherence to it would be more than adequate "insurance".

The OLM is an excellent guide. Comparing it to your own UOA is perfectly valid, but that analysis is specific to your driving habits, oil selection, climate, etc.

0W40 Supercar. I guess what I am thinking is that the OLM isn't that far off and with the aging, it is probably too conservative if you follow it, at least for my car as you stated. So, do you think that your car is going to be that different, as far as the OLM algorithm?

IIRC, that was the original spec till the Supercar came along. I don't believe it helps much if you aren't tracking it. Suppose to be it may help the cat past a little longer?
I have the Mobil 1 supercar 0W40 6 pack in my Amazon cart. It was saved from two different companies. One companies price went from $58 to $95 and back every couple of days.
I’ve noticed lots of companies change their pricing on Amazon very often.
I understand that the former 0W-40 ESP is now called Supercar 0W-40 (since C-8?). Recently bought mine via Walmart on-line (free delivery), via a 3rd-party, paid $9.00/qt, in 2 - 6-qt boxes ($54 ea).
You know something, I actually like what you're doing there.
I never thought of doing this, and it's pretty smart actually and I'd imagine a bonus for any 2nd or 3rd owner down the road.
