I have a 2019 C7 Stingray Z51 and am contemplating having the windows tinted. I have gotten a quote from a local shop that carries Xpel, the quotes are as follows,
One concern I have which is why I won’t tint the windshield is the water getting in the electronics at the base of the windshield. I have heard it multiple times on late model GM trucks from otherwise very good shops….

How picky is your state on window tinting? Many if not all states have a max percentage of tint allowed, at least on the side windows so be sure to know what that percentage is.

Oh and 30% is about right. IMO…
Curious - what does applying tint film onto a windshield have to do with water intrusion to the electronics?
The previous owner of mine had 35% XR plus installed on everything except the windshield a few years ago and paid $350. I like it and I think it does a good job with the heat.
I have 70% ceramic tint (so its unnoticeable) on all my cars (including the Corvette), yes even on the windshields. It helps with heat rejection. I think I paid around $250 for it.
FYI tint is usually referred to by the percentage of light allowed in. So 5% is limo tint, and 90% is your typical OEM glass tint on the windshield and front windows. Honestly on front and windshield windows I'd never go below 70%. I know some people like to do 50 or 35% and in many states thats illegal, but I also think it reduces your visibility enough that its a safety issue. On rear windows I wouldn't go below 35%. I think OEM SUV and Truck tint on the rear and back windows is 35% but it could be 50%. Regardless stock is dark enough I think, anything darker is unsafe.
Great point, installer stated they would not go darker than allowed by state law. 50% side windows and back. Windshield 30%. I think probably best to do just the side and back window!

Reply from @Rabbi :
Probably due to their use of liquid on the glass to place the film. I had them put a strip across the top of the w/s like GM used to do. Helps a lot
Me again - OK, but I'm still not clear on why putting liquid on your windshield to aid in film installation is any more dangerous to electrical equipment than either washing the car or driving it in the rain. In all those cases the windshield and cowl area get wet.
Those are some great prices. There is only one tint place near me, and they wanted to charge $600 to tint my car with 30% ceramic to stay legal. I will shop around and travel for the right place/price.

Any help...??
They spray soapy water on the inside glass and the film so they can glide it into place. They also use a squeegee to smooth it out, which expels water and drips on the dash. Most places will use towels to absorb stray water. I don't know of anyone putting windshield tint on the outside.
